Air travel allows us to reach remote and distant locations far faster and easier than would otherwise be possible. It’s still, statistically, one of the safest ways to travel, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some routes that pose a greater risk than others. For various reasons, runways can’t always be as long as some planes need. Sometimes runways are surrounded by obstacles, or experience weather conditions that make it difficult to land. So don’t forget to fasten your seatbelt and join us for today's video, as we visit the top 15 most dangerous airports in the world.

Madeira Funchal is another interesting approach! The plane has to swing over the Atlantic Ocean & do a full 180degrees with maximum bank to get around the mountains & with such a short runway all you see is the ocean as it’s such a steep bank. The flight is almost at 90 degrees angle before quickly straightening out to land but it’s pretty much a roller coaster ride. I also traveled there in 96 before it was extended. I didn’t even know they had made the runway longer but trust me it was very very much needed.

JSI SXM RAR.

Those 3 have one thing In common.
The low approach over a road or even a beach and the opportunities for pictures...

You forgot to include St Helena's new airport (HLE). Short runway and notorious wind gusts mean dangerous approach and delayed flights.Pilots need special training to land there.

Flying into Gibraltar is always fun, also, they're currently making an effort to remove the use of Winston Churchill Avenue as a route to Spain by digging a tunnel underneath the runway.

Don't forget San Diego International. Mountains out one window, skyscrapers out the other, and the ocean at the end. One strip for landings and takeoffs as well.

It would be interesting to know how you'd define the 'southern tip' of Antarctica?
I mean, the only way, anywhere, out of Antarctica is north.

What about London City airport. Runway on an old dock and many high rise buildings near by. Planes have to land and take off at a very steep angle. It is an International airport conecting London to many places in Europe.

As I’ve always said any landing is a good one as long as you land safely. ✌️👍✌️

So, I flew out of the Mérida airport (#15) and got really scared as the plane kind of lifted down at the end of the runway, and then finally lifted up. I´m not a fearful person (Army Airborne), but, the next time I took the bus to Caracas.

Shame the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong is closed. Pilots find landing there a challenge with all of those buildings in Kowloon.

How could you omit Shagual airport? It's as dangerous as Lukla and the runaway is in curve. Including Congonhas is an ofence. It's one of the most secure airports in the world. Accidents are very rare. The last one has almost 20 years.
