Now ProxMox has a way to Import/Migrate VM's from VMware ESXi and over to Proxmox.
This is a genius move from ProxMox to make it way easier to migrate away from VMware ESXi.

I test it out in this video,, run in to some issues, but also get some promising results.

Visit my little shop, and help me get rig of some of all these 10Gbit SFP+

your reasons to move vms was the same as mine, I was also on 6.7.x. I also couldnt get it to work the manual way ( just my inexperience that caused that) so the whole import tool was great!

Hello, I solve the Linux problem by disabling QEMU Guest Agent in Options. I've had this problem before, but not always. But this worked for me.

first try turning off tablet pointer in Proxmox, VM > Options > Use tablet for pointer.

next, try changing Linux kernel version in Proxmox, VM > Options >OS Type - change to 2.4

The NAG is a very cheap price to pay for free ProxMox! Stick with it Mort - it will pay off in the end. I move from VMware to ProXmox many years ago, once you have it up and running and your VM's moved I bet you will be very happy with it. When I did it there was not Import/Export and I had to rebuild many of the VM's (mostly windows VMs) really surprised your having any issue with a Linux computer to move - again stick with it - check or post on communities at ProxMox - lots of helpful people out there know way more than I!

Updated Proxmox from 7 to 8.2 after youre last video. No issues updating but after the update my windows 10 VM's did have a (VNC) boot screen but black screen after that. They booted Ok because I could acces the services I have installed on them. Had to force save mode. Made a change of the (safe mode) screen resolution to 640x480. Then after a reboot the VM's worked fine again (Why???). I still have version 6.4 running in a museum. Very stable I'm afraid to update this server because it is in use daily. As file server on both servers I use Open Media Fault. Server Museum DELL 310 and at home a DELL T410.

Morten, voice quality of the server room is perfect, though, the voice from the living room is potato quality, it seems audio is heavily compressed by narrowband voice compression, it gives micro-stress to viewers🙂

Any reason you're not usiing the Virt IO drivers? Linux has them builtin and you can download the windows one's separately.

Change Linux kernel version ad try again. After successfully boot. Try to update kernel from Ubuntu. The stop vm. Set proxmox to new Linux version and start boot again. This will fix your problem.

What is your honest opinion about vmware vs proxmox besides the subscription model from vmware?

try to use the same settings as your pfsense VM. try sata instead of raid. I have many other suggestions, but the stupid yt-algorithm always deletes my postings. 3 times in the last 10 minutes. there were no links or "bad" words in it.

youtube app on android sucks. it just deleted my comment 3 times just after creation. there were no links or other things in it and i've also writed vmware instead of the shorter ES... because sometimes the algorithm misunderstands this.
