"Help!" - You need to learn to say No, Colin!

Joking aside, these machines deserve to be preserved where possible, but 7 at once is a bit much!

I used some of those USB-C power delivery boards for making an adapter for my (and someone else's) Compaq SLT/286's, they really are versitile with the multiple supported voltage options, can be used to power a whole host of different things.

"Go ahead and give me a hard time about that, too, while you're at it." I totally get that. We have to intentionally change online culture so that we're more measured, convivial, constructive and positive.

One of my favorite laptops ever was my 540C. I remember slapping it on the table in my college classes after I got it, to everyone's amazement. I think I was the only student in my paralegal program with a laptop at the time.

Thanks for showing the USB-C conversion kit - very, very handy stuff there. Good idea to use a knot in the cable as a basic strain relief mechanism since the enclosure didn't have anything else suitable.

I did this once with a box full of Compaq laptops and parts that were all defective in various ways. Since they were all from the same product series, major things could be swapped without too much bother. I put all the best pieces into one and had enough leftovers to build two more, though they had some 'speed holes' in the cases where ports weren't on the lesser model boards I put in them.

I keep my super glue in the refrigerator. I’ve noticed it keeps longer. Locktite is good stuff Colin!

Nice job. The 520c was my first PowerBook repair.

Power Macintosh 6400 would be a really interesting machine to do a video on

Great work! When 3d printing enclosures for power adapters (and electronics in general) you should be using PETG V0 filament, if you aren’t already. 19:49

Ah yes, the VW of Laptops.
You touch it, you have a 50:50-99 of breaking the plastic :D

Oh boy, the PD adapter are the best idea for vintage laptops so far. Even better than the newer c64/128 PSUs

I owned a 520C back when I was teaching Social Science and it came handy to take grading home. But it became obsolete when we got Dell Laptops for all of us. that was back in the 90s.

the 540c also has an Active Matrix LCD over the 520c's cheaper, ghosty Passive Matrix LCD.

I got a stack like that about 30 years ago... they've been sitting in my unheated storage trailer ever since then. I played on a few of them after I got them, but they weren't too usable for anything by then. Which is odd, because when they came out, Macintosh anywhere on the go, the dream machine. In reality... not so much so. By now probably all the screens on mine have bleed out from freezing, but it's irrelevant, as a single core 25mghz computer has zero appeal to me any more... even though I've got over 150 of them... all slowly rusting away..
