Lithium is dangerous

This is just a regular energizer lithium battery, and I want to see what's inside of it.

WARNING: Opening batteries like this is dangerous, and almost always a huge pain. This experiment was performed in a controlled environment. Do not recreate anything you see.

The fire onboard the MIR space station was caused by a defective lithium canister that was used to produce oxygen. There was no way to extinguish it, it only stopped when it stopped producing oxygen. The fire was between the 6 people on board and the second soyuz. Only three of them could have abandoned the station, if needed. Yes, it's scary.

When I was in the military in 2004 we had to carry 10 pound batteries for the radios that were made from Lithium. If they got wet they blew up.
