Nothing feels better than saying "You're wrong" and giving people a stack of evidence to go with it.

Good to see you're actually doing the training. Nothing to disprove something like doing that something.

I just realize... you lose leverage on reverse grip. Ouch.

You are correct about the upward slash. Samurais in Japan hade techniques for reverse grips that was heavily focused on upward slash. Like taking a sword from a guy behind from it's slide and do 1-2 quick reverse attacks and change grip as soon as possible. It seems like reverse works better for quick attacks behind you upp close

The only time I've seen the reverse grip and thought it could work was Asoka from star wars, because when the weapon can cut through steel like butter the leverage and striking power isn't as important most of the time

You know what ? I love you !
Why?
Because! Youre very skilled in what you do. And you dont care. You want to be better, you want to be better. You know that reverse Grip is Kind of Bad and you gibt a fuck. You practice and want to Do it right. Maybe its really bad, maybe its Kind of realible. But fuck it. You do it, you want to know if there is a Option to use it.

I love that mindset. You try something that is outside of your comfort-zone.
And youre a pro. You could say - fuck you Chat, your Option is trash, but you didtn do it. You try to Listen to "noobs" to improve yourself. Thats true Power! To be a master and also be an Novice.

Sorry for my Bad english, its not my native languane

I actually found the reverse grip useful as a "cheap and easy" option for the left hand of someone wielding two short weapons but is not really good/trained at that. Just hanging there, the weapon will cover the lower left really well and the middle left and Lowe right with little effort. That is all quadrants not covered by the right hand weapon. So it can act like a bad shield - but shields are imba, so even a bad shield is a good option for someone who does not have the coordination to actually use two wepons.

Reverse grip was a real thing in some parts of history. The thing is that it was only used when you had a significantly shorter weapon like a dagger vs someone with a longer weapon because then you would try to get in really close. When you are really close a reverse grip can be a lot more useful because you can’t lunge stab when you’re right next to someone.

Glad this project is going underway! Hopefully we can get a viable underhand fighting tactic for the efforts. Maybe to continue the onslaught or the flow maybe use the strike for the underhand as a cover to reposition yourself on your opponents side to continue slashing. It looked like you were already stepping through with the flow of the underhand strike. Maybe continuing with the step to reposition urself would be a viable option. Then maybe switching grips to be able to use either sword to move around your opponent. (This may be a viable method to get around the shield to not leave yourself open to a strike if you are turning into their shield side)

One thing I will say is that fighting with a reverse grip was designed for small blades like knives. Some techniques are viable for longer blades (like the side slash and a reverse thrust) but the techniques where designed for small blades with more mobility and could slip in gaps between protective gear or in close range. It IS usually paired with a forward grip but it's there to do things like cut tendons, immobilise joints and target vitals.

Basically it was designed for close, pinpoint fighting with blades like stiletto's and other knives and short weapons to target vitals and immobilise your opponent.

“Martha, the silly man is doing the stupid reverse grip thing against, do you want to tell him or shall I?”

“Oh let him have his fun, he’ll soon prove its horseshit, dear!”

Sounds like there's a bit of hope for the reverse grip then. Maybe not as a whole style of it's own, but being able to incorporate it into your swordplay could give you an edge in the swings it is good for.

What i always do when im playing with sticks is do reverse grip, flip the stick, and get the normal grip

I feel like the best use for reverse grip is to stab someone behind or beside you. Especially as an off hand weapon. I also think the unorthodox technique has SOME value in that your opponent has a harder time visualizing the range and sequences you might use. But for the most part you have convinced me to let the childhood fantasy die
