I mean as an offhanded parrying tool hes getting somewhere. Scots held dirks with targes, china used hook shields. By protruding out of the buckler you just increase area of defense with an auxiliary method of attack if you have have it in position.

Its not much larger than a hook shield now, its just only the bottom shield.

I think I've figured out the way to make reverse grip work. so, first you decrease the lenght of the blade -- you don't want it stabbing you, after all. maybe make it just an inch or two long. Instead, for your primary attack you extend a blade out from the pommel, couple feet or more. this keeps them away from your exposed hand in reverse grip, and grants you a longer reach. you can optionally add in a second crossguard to improve this, and maybe even remove the main crossguard since you don't need it as much for when you make brief stabs with the pommel

Actually I think you’ll find that if you hold the sword in your foot you can get better power and reach, making it the superior style

See The problem with this is that he needed a BIGGER SWORD. The length of a bigger sword would make it impossible for it to be turned onto you.

See, the problem here is that you didn't reverse it enough. Instead of reverse grip, try reverse-reverse grip because two is always better than one.

Reverse grip is usefull when you fight against something big as hell and you want to use your sword like a kind of climbing axe 👀

I am a fencer and I have discovered one way reverse grip can be useful. there is a parry called parry 9, which can be done much easier in reverse grip.

Reverse grip is only really good for 2 things
-Spear Throwing
-Close Quarters Combat/Halfswording

I can think of only one scenario where reverse grip would work--and I don't mean 'would be better'; stabbing straight down. Literally straight down. Which isn't something you really do in active combat, as far as I'm aware.

The only way reverse grip would work is if You used it when You're finishing someone on the ground while having them pinned to the ground with Your legs. Stabbing them like that would be a bit better than trying to slash them or trying to stab them in the conventional way. Having said that, it's still bad in 99% of situations.

Reverse grip has 4 usesvin combat.

1 - drawing/sheathing a blade with the same arm as the side the weapon was stowed(e.g. drawing a swords sheathed on y ou ur left, with your left hand)

2 - throwing the blade. Cause a distraction to escape

3 - if you have a long blade in close quarters, but ag that point you'd be better off halfswording.

4 - sepuku/harakiri. Steal your enemies kill
