Dual wielding with long, or two handed weapons has significant disadvantages.

Dual wielding is meant for a single one-handed weapon and a shorter companion weapon, or two shorter weapons.

The systems I'm talking about were mostly used in civilian combat. Rapier and Dagger, Filipino martial arts, Etc. On the battlefield, a shield is a better idea.

shield full sized shield was not a common civilian armament. But a buckler was a little more manageable. Usually, a second shorter weapon, like a dagger, was much more convenient for every day wear.

A dedicated strike with a heavier blade, such as a hand-and-a-halfer or a battleaxe, can easily blow past a blade parry. This is why footwork is the most important aspect regardless of which weapon you’re using.

Very good points about tempo. The other thing double weapon has on single weapon is the ability to attack two completely different angles in a single tempo.
