This was Shatner's least favorite scene of his least favorite episode. It featured a raging drama queen on the bridge who wasn't him. If DeForrest had torn his shirt, Shatner would have quit or sued or pretended to be thrown from side to side by violent explosions. Seriously, I bet he threw a fit when he saw the script. Riffling through page after page..."where...where is my dialogue? Where the hell is my..." And then he comes to the "out of your Vulcan mind" scene. Roddenberry had no doubt already left a message stating that he was on an extended vacation at a very remote trout stream, no phones, contact impossible until Thursday after next when production for the season has concluded. It was a very long afternoon for the assistant executive producer who was out of the loop and showed up on the set that day.
