Hey guys! Negotiating a salary can be difficult. This video will help you get your ideal compensation. What are your biggest questions when it comes to negotiating a salary?

I really like how to mention "thinking out of the box" when it comes to a negotiation. There are so many ways of being compensated which isn't just money and a lot of times candidates do not take it into consideration enough.
Very well done, Heather. I enjoyed the video!

Great tips... especially #3. I didn't know you should wait for the company to make the first offer. This is golden!!

I low balled my salary expectation, when I was asked for it in my phone intervi?w. I figured out my number after this. How do I deal with this when I get an offer that is in the range of the low balled salary expectation?

You are so helpful!! I wish these skills were taught in high school to prep students for the real world instead of having to learn through trial and error ugh. But thank you so much, I just got a job offer and used your techniques in my negotiation and it paid off big time! :)

Nothing is more important than just to start the negotiation when you get the offer. I just ask and I got a 10% increase. So JUST ASK

Another GREAT video! I negotiated a payment plan and got something no one does just because I asked! It was a huge national company  and their payment plan was two months and when they asked, which I navigated, I said I'd like it in one month ... and there wasn't even a pause.... just ... okay. .... and I need to remember, that this is something that you really can do. YES YES>>> Women need to do Way to put a plug in for the empowerment  women in there on this topic!  You are soooo a professor. Totally great video! I'm so glad to be back. I missed you! Thanks for being an accountability buddy for me too beautiful soul... that was so sweet. Truly. xox ~Elizabeth :)

I gained courage but still a little scared when they mentioned FIRM!! Twice.

I got the job and the offer was descent.

I see the main idea behind is to not give a value and let them evaluate your worthiness. What if you're coming from a company who pays you above market average for that job (verified with Glassdoor for instance) and the reason you're searching for a new job is personal (i.e changing residence country, join with your family or getting closer to your parents family, just to name a few). I believe in that case one has to provide a minimum 'cut-off' expectation for the salary as most likely you'll know from the onset they will offer you a lower salary then the current one, so you know what you can accept . Why not share it with them then this expectation as one has nothing to lose ?

It really depends on the employer and job that you are going for. I'm in banking, and in my experience, banks have their own pay structure based on department and position.

Your best bet is to flip the question on them and ask them about their pay scale. If they aren't honest with you then you probably don't want to work for them. It really is uneducated to give any number because you are unfamiliar with the company's compensation structure..

Thanks so much I made the mistake of saying a past salary . The temp agency never called. I called and they promply told me they didnt have or do jobs in my salary range.

Wow, never heard of the Noel Smith-Wenkel answers...genius! I'd highly recommend the book "Never Split the Difference"; it's a fun read and tons of mental tricks to use with negotiations or just interactions with coworkers!
Heather, you rock. You make great vids and are just so pleasant to learn from while going through the ups and downs of the job search process.
