One more successful story to share with you all is of a 23-year-old male patient who came a long way from BANGLADESH to AHMEDABAD in search of an alternative to PPI medication which he has been taking for a long time. He was aware of the side effects of medicines and wanted to improve his life quality. Acid reflux has deteriorated his life. He was operated on for Nissen Fundoplication surgery. The surgery was quite smooth, and the outcomes were good. After one year of surgery, he came with good results. No acid reflux. No PPI is needed in 1 year. We are happy that we incorporate diet and lifestyle changes very strongly in our treatment plan for each patient. We give a lot of time to understand the patient's problems and formulate the best treatment plan for each individual patient.
Diet and lifestyle changes are included in the plan for each patient. Some patients would additionally need medications, while others would be better suited for laparoscopic surgery. Some patients with psychological or functional problems would additionally need some psycho-modulation by drugs, meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises.
We are very aggressive in our follow-up to ensure that our patients stick to the lifestyle change and hence achieve a long-lasting solution to the problem of GERD.
