When i first switched to linux i hopped around a lot and manjaro was my comfort distro for almost a year. But some updates broke my boot and as a relative noob i couldn't do much so i started hopping again. Many distros later I found my plate of rice... Fedora. I'm happy here but Manjaro days were something I was happy with. ❤❤

Manjaro is the first distro that I haven't hopped away from. I really haven't had many issues after 5 years using it on the same PC. Besides having to fix the occasional update issue caused by my AUR downloads which is mostly my fault. It's very easy to swap and update kernels. The KDE 6 update is running great for me with wayland and Diablo 4 is working for me now in 4k HDR and FSR 2.1 under Proton. Being able to play games in HDR now is awesome.

Yesterday, I tried installing it on my brother's PC. The ISO file was a month old, and I was too lazy to flash a newer one. It installed normally, but then I got a 2.5 GB update. After the update, pretty much every single app didn't work and Wayland stopped working for some reason. I had to switch to x11

I used manjaro for more than 3 years before witching to endeavour and fedora. It worked well, even better when switching to the unstable branch, just switched out of boredom.

I installed manjaro just a few days ago on my main machine and I specifically remember that during the steam installation pamac asked me to pick one of the vulkan packages and I was like "umm I have no idea why I need this but lets pick vulkan-radeon i guess", and Steam worked with no issues. Actually pamac asked me to pick optional dependencies for anything I installed.

my mom's laptop has been running manjaro for years now and had no issues during any updates, and I used it myself a long time ago, never really had any problems, and I actually remember thinking it's "misunderstood" occasionally, like a lot of people on youtube would basically expect it to behave like Arch, but it's not Arch and it's not supposed to, and they have good reasons to hold back packages for instance since instead of just releasing random updates all the time and forcing people to deal with random breakages and "manual intervention required" cases, they release updates in waves that are much more curated and never break anything

also it's pretty cool that manjaro now has automatic bootable timeshift snapshots kinda like opensuse

Manjaro is BY FAR the best arch based distro you can get. Nothing else comes close and I've used pretty much all of them. Going on 4 years on my main desktop with Manjaro KDE.

I used to Manjaro. I had something happen where something broke, then I switch to EndeavourOS. It has been smooth sailing ever since.

I hate people parroting 'Manjaro faults' I have Manjaro on my machines and it is working great.

The problem for me is that Manjaro is basically just Arch Linux but nerfed. Updates take longer for not much gain in stability and it's best to avoid the AUR, which is a big loss. The installer and pre-installed packages are nice but EndeavourOS exists. Besides, it's just not good for a beginner, on an Arch distro you pretty much need to hone your troubleshooting and Linux skills to have a decent experience. You can learn a lot of that by installing and using base Arch, but you skip that process when you use Manjaro, and when a problem comes up, a beginner is gonna be clueless on how to solve it.

Switched from mint to manjaro 4 years ago been pretty rock stable for me. Don't always agree with the teams decisions but the distro itself is solid

I've been using Manjaro (stable) for about 2 years...until last week. Literally every update breaks something lately. Can't recommend it.

i used manjaro 2 years ago, i hated setting up optimus. it didn't do it automatically, also any aur package runs like crap and breaks the system.

EndeavourOS is much smoother on my system than Manjaro. I used Manjaro for a few days in 2024, and some things didn’t work.

My brother’s friend’s dad is one of the initial contributors to Manjaro, so I know some insights :)

I would give it a try; maybe it will work for you…

7 years on Manjaro now. First 2 years was on XFCE, the rest on Gnome. Had two issues, messed up myself, fiddled to much. But could fixed it easily. Never had to re-install or any major fixes needed. I'm very happy that I could do this much on a computer I bought in 2012. AAA games and all. My GPU broke, now on a borrowed lower end GPU, so no-more massive AAA's.

It's strange how the installment and use of Manjaro turns out to be error free for some folks but rife with issues for others. I'm in the first camp, one of those who, after some 5 or 6 years of continuous use, has never had major issues with Manjaro on any of my machines. Like most I hopped in the beginning, but once landing on Manjaro those days ended. Manjaro just does what I expect it to do and I don't see moving on to something else any time soon. I've landed and I'm staying.

In my opinion, if you’ve been using Linux for some time and aren’t afraid of getting your hands dirty, then it’s the bee’s knees for folks trying to squeeze the life out of their hardware. Yeah, there will be lumps and bumps to tackle, but that’s the point of using a rolling distro. The ecosystem right now is changing and fluctuating and that indicates that it’s alive and thriving unlike Windoze where it’s focused on built-in spyware these days. If you’re a tech enthusiast and have some knowledge of Linux this is a solid distro. Been using it for over five years now and have grown it to as much perfection as I can manage on 14-year-old hardware and I still love it.

A lot of mindless hate about. I heard lots of it and wanted to try it and expected it to fall on its face but it didn’t. Literally everything I threw at it - gaming included. Both KDE and Gnome working really well. Personally I always had the mindset of, wait a bit to see what’s broken first before updating so Manjaro suits me fine.

13:04 happy for your upgrade, also a bit late.. but happy bday. 👌
I wish I had an integrated GPU, because I always wanted to GPU passthrough to a VM, just to test haha.

after the mandatory distro-hopping myself into the ground, I kept going back to Manjaro KDE 😉
