It's an easy to use distro, which has most all of the advantages of Arch Linux, including AUR access, rolling release for muh gaymes for gamers and if you git gud you can also play around with desktop environments and window managers easily.

I switched to Manjaro two years ago to get away from Windows, never regretted it.

Actually my first Linux distro was Arch and it was fine cause manually installing it all basically worked as a tutorial and the whole process got me into the right Linux mindset. It took an entire day for me to figure it out but it also taught me how an OS works and not to fear the command line. I just love the robust feeling the installation gives you and the no bullshit approach.

I first installed linux in 1998 (slackware 3, kernel 1.2). I completely dropped Windows in 2002. I've distro-hoped a fair bit, and tried even more distributions than I dare to remember, plus a slew of BSDs and other more exotic options (QNX anyone ?). Finally in 2015 for a new computer, I installed Manjaro I had just heard about. 2020, still on Manjaro, same computer with a lot of parts swapped in/out. No re-install. Fast as new. Two CLI commands per week in text-console (no X, for the graphical stack may break during the process which is the root of most failed updates when the updater itself runs in a GUI) : #pacman -Syyuu && pacman -Scc ; that's it. Done. Works forever.
Manjaro is not only for newcomers, it's also for old bearded users that have a social life and family. It works.

I unironically installed Manjaro XFCE last month for my mom.

3:35, Funny how true that is. I was on the same quest, trying to replicate windows 7 (because windows 7 was so awesome) until I found your i3 videos on youtube. Now the floating windows interface and mouse use feels like a thing designed for handicapped people.

I installed Linux Mint on my brothers laptop because his windows installation stopped working with his graphics card and failed to see his wifi card so he installed a wifi dongle and it then had problems with that. Linux Mint detected all his hardware including the built in wifi card and the only thing he needed to do after confirming keyboard layout and location was to put in his wifi password etc. It then took me less than ten minutes to explain how to use it and he never looked back. I have been using Linux Mint for at least five years and tried many different distros before and after that but I always feel Mint just has the edge. It's like Ubuntu without most of the bad bits - it's not perfect but no distro is but for a general user I still think it's the best.

Hey Luke, you could do a follow up vídeo to your Arch Installation Guide doing a LARBS setup. It's incredible easy to do but it took me 2 years to finally dive into Arch. Now I have 3 computers with Arch/LARBS.

I went in the opposite direction: started with Arch, which was very educational, but time-consuming. I eventually decided I didn't need the amount of granular control that Arch had over Manjaro, so I switched. I'm super pleased with Manjaro so far.
