Dr. Mike's comment on Jeff Nippard's video:

"Folks who have commented or reached out about my anxiety disorder, thank you so much for caring. Good news, it's entirely due to steroids, and those I take entirely voluntary with no compulsion or addiction. As soon as I want, I can stop them and within days I don't have severe anxiety disorder anymore and within weeks I barely have anxiety at all. I HATE how they make me feel, but I have a few goals in bodybuilding left to accomplish, so I deal with it. I have a knack for doing very hard things that take a long time, so this is right up my alley. No need to worry about me!

PS: If I die before my due time from the cardiovascular shit... it's been real and this is what I wanted. Do not ever feel the need to be sympathetic of me. - Dr. Mike"

The more I learn about professional bodybuilding the more I am disturbed by it

All this talk about chemicals and body dysmorphia makes me think that bodybuilders are very self conscious nerds dealing with unresolved trauma.

As a physician (albeit not a vascular specialist or hepatologist or pulmonologist) a few of the medical points are wrong. His nails don’t look like clubbing although you couldn’t be sure without a proper physical exam by a specialist. The point about hyperaldacteronism is conjecture and you can’t be sure without checking a renal panel. And the point about enlarged umbilical veins is inaccurate, enlarged porto-umbilical veins (caput medusae) is an end stage sign of decompensated cirrhosis. While steroids certainly cause liver damage and can increase the risk of certain neoplasms, no bodybuilder would be able to maintain even a fraction of their physique (due to the protein wasting and inability for the liver to synthesize SHBG and other important proteins) if they got to the point where they have portosystemic shunting like that. For reference, the pts who I’ve cared for who have cirrhosis with caput medusae were extremely frail and on the brink of death waiting for a transplant. Great video but keep in mind the medical points here are just theories from someone who is well versed in bodybuilding science and general health but not in medical conditions. Happy to hear points from medical professionals (physicians, PAs, nurses in these specialties) and what your opinions are about these points.

I don’t think money is his reason to bodybuild. The man has butlers and Lamborghinis all over the place.

hearing u list all the weird drugs required just to look stage ready on the day of competition makes bodybuilding sound even more insane than i thought

Mike has addressed most of this. He also states that he just loves bodybuilding, regardless of how detrimental it is to his health.

It's hard to take someone seriously when they're still pushing turkesterone.

Mike and Greg are both good reminders that your dream body actually isn't worth it

I asked Mike why BB instead of powerlifting, and he replied it's his dream. I think he'd be a much better powerlifter, but each to their own. I'm neither a BB or powerlifter, just a weightlifter that really enjoys the gym.

As someone who suffers from severe anxiety and panic disorder I can already assume Mike won’t reply on this video. I can tell he loves bodybuilding but this will hit him very hard(maybe too hard). But I do hope he prioritizes his health first. Anxiety is terrible especially when you’re just a normal guy and it comes out of nowhere then never leaves. It seems if he pushed any harder his overall health will decline rapidly(physically/mentally). I love his content and hope he is still around long enough to inspire the youth even if he can’t hit his dream goal. He’s already a pillar in the community

Bodybuilding is an absurd pursuit. Completely niche interest that gets conflated with general health and fitness.

I really like dr mikes content. Id prefer he was healthy and stayed around longer than stay big and damage himself

Pride in his work (RP) is way more valuable to him than just the money, I would think. I think you nailed it when you said he wanted to prove his program works. Obviously the money is great, but having proof of the efficacy or quality of a product you created, is a really good feeling.

I enjoy listening to Dr. Mike as well. Would like to see him stick around for a while.

Damn, Greg got real with this one. Really honest assessment and for whatever you think of Greg, you are never going to find another YouTuber as big as him not hold back on another like this. Gregs indifference to putting himself on an island and be his own advocate… it’s commendable and I really respect him for it
