Un pomme de terre was never weird to me because it’s basically the same in Dutch. ‘La barbe à papa’ is really weird to me tho 💀

In Portuguese we use the french word for soutien and pronounce it like in french but spell it "sutiã". We say "pele de galinha" (chair de poule) and for kite we also use an animal, but in our case a bird: "papagaio de papel" or paper parrot.

I like it that you find examples which seem ‘awkward’. There must be many as there are in most languages. The name of a Canadian folk band ‘Le Vent du Nord’ would probably fit this category (tho’ there is a poetic side to the name).

I was reading a book recently and I learned that to experience a bad day would be to "Have the cockroach" and that you can describe things as "Duck cold". Can you confirm or deny these? :3

To me it is even weirder that because the word 'soutien' (support) is masculine, the term for a bra is masculine.

I think the word “goosebumps” is weird in all languages! In Polish it’s “gęsia skórka” which literally means “small goose skin”
