How to Read Anything Faster #SHORTS

Wouldn’t it be so much easier if you could get through all those tedious reading assignments three times faster? Speed reading attempts to maintain skim-like reading speeds with reading-like comprehension. We accomplish this by finding ways to reduce comprehension minimally while increasing speed maximally. First, determine what type of reading you will perform and what your goal is.

You don’t need to maximize comprehension for every reading task. Determine the minimum level of comprehension required and prioritize reading speed.

Second, be flexible with your reading speed. Some segments of text will be easy for you. You won’t have to stop on every word and understand it deeply. Other sections will introduce new words or concepts and you’ll have to stop frequently. Anticipate this and adjust accordingly to optimize your speed/comprehension balance.

The first and last sentences of a paragraph are also often most important, so focus on those if you’re unsure about the importance of a paragraph.

Lastly, use a pacer, like your finger or a pen. Run your pacer below each line from end to end, and have your eyes follow along. This will instantly increase your reading speed while minimizing comprehension loss.

Are there any speed reading tips I missed? Comment down below.

I find that reading while standing up and out loud helps a lot. I went from (feeling like) falling asleep after 5 pages to being able to read many advanced psychology related chapters in a day (after only a few months). Although, as mentioned quite often on this channel, breaks are crucial.

Focus on the middle words of a page, your eyes will pick up the words on the sides

If you’re reading fiction, read all of it so you understand and get enjoyment out of it. But any order goes for nonfiction. If you’re reading nonfiction, just read the first and last sentences. Skim the middle.
