You need your own tv show. This is WAY better and more informative than anything I’ve seen in a long time. 👍

You can tell there are a lot of hours and miles carried from your construction days when watching you do this. You are a wealth of knowledge! Roof looked really nice!

I've done basic steel roofing on my barns, but you just gave me all the critical nuanced details to help me do my house without looking like an amateur and help me save $10K, mostly little details like the flashing and how to stay square, since I do have snow and ice this is good info Thanks Rich

One of the many things I like about your channel is the diversity of the builds thanks Rich

Race car, heavy equipment, construction. Has to be 3 channels, right? Nope, Deboss has it all in one stop

Hello Rich, I have to say that each steel manufacturer has his own recommendation as to where to put the screws be it peak or valley. Most of what I have used is on the flat with stitching screws (smaller shorter ones) used on the seam overlap and the peak cap. The other thing you might be missing is the panels are designed with the contours to be able to take the expansion and contraction. To overdrill your pilot holes is counterproductive because if drilled to be just a bit undersized when the screw is driven the steel will 'volcano' just a bit. Now when the neoprene washer comes down it makes an even better seal on the projection and water will most often run past very easily rather than climbing over. Take a look on some old steel at the screw holes and you can see this. I have not seen and have no knowledge of a properly screwed roof (as you say don't squish the seal) leaking. My own has been up for thirty years in our coastal high winds (at least once per year over 100mph), wet snow and 160+ inches of rain per year without any failures. I am totally with you about walking on steel. I won't do it if it is even dew damp! And a harness is a must for even the most dare devil of installers. Take care. Doug

I've been following your videos for years, NEVER, thought I'd find a diy metal roof over tar shingle video. Thank you for the info, because next year 2023 I'll be doing this to my home. Thanks again.

I have learned more from this video than about the other two dozen videos I watched before this. Great video. Thank you so much.

Another thing I have to add is, you really need to locate and make sure your nails are hitting the rafters when nailing the 1x4's on. If not you are just nailing into old plywood in many cases.

Thanks Rich. Roofing the house in the spring and I was arguing with myself “do it yourself/eff-it just pay someone”. You convinced me. Thanks. Tape Boss is a huge time saver BTW. Saves me many steps.

Retired electrician, sister-in-law new house in construction 12-12 pitch getting a steel roof. Wondering how all flashings work, watching your video cleared things up,
Many thanks. Watching from Grande-Digue nb Canada

On the ridge cap, I put it on after one side of the roof metal has been installed. When installing the second side of the metal, slide it under the cap and install screws in the 30 (or 36) inches of the new metal as you go along. This will keep you from having to go out on the ridge after all the panels have been set. If you do it last, besides flattening the ridge cap, it is almost impossible to set it straight!

We found adding a layer of foil insulation helped with cutting the heat transfer to our attic space as well as deadening the rain/sound factor. Great video! Thanks

I never knew what I was doing but I found a guy with a lot of it. I did two large buildings then many years later you come along and show me how making apparent that I either never learned or forgot everything I did. I got back slaps and both roofs are really nice yet.

I have 3 small rental homes I am re roofing with metal. Thank GOD they are 5 -12 pitch! We are actually using 2.5 inch deck screws to secure the 1 x 4's and we are running them into the roof joist. We left the shingles on and I used a reciprocating saw to cut the the edge of the shingles off.

I gotta say I’m pretty damn impressed at how much you know about this I’ve been a roofer for a long time and I can say I agree with 98% of what you said the only thing I didn’t agree with was that they defiantly have a lot of roofing options that last longer than 15 years but then your getting into expensive territory and also we always put screws next to the rib so when you look down it you can’t see any screws but where I live we don’t get a lot of snow it’s about 1-2 months a year but we also have about a 90° weather change
