When people ask me, I always tell people that I read instead of watching TV.

You are such a great example of a “busy” person that doesn’t get caught up in the toxic productivity and busyness that is so prevalent on social media. I think you are right about just getting in the habit of doing it. Great video Shelly.

The last few years, I have been reading primarily for enjoyment and am reading more than I did when I read what I thought I "should" read. I love a "can't put down" book! I enjoy readable books more than enlightening ones. I think some of us think a reviewer knows better than we do about what makes a good book. I now value my own opinion more that that of a reviewer. I also watch Booktubers with similar tastes to mine for new suggestions. No TV is another big help 🙂.

Your family is beautiful love 💕
Fantastic tips and tricks Shelly. I love what you said about ‘reading time as being me time, it is a way for me to be healthily selfish’ That’s exactly what it is🙌
You covered all the points that help me read more. Endlessly scrolling on my phone and cutting out watching TV was a huge help in my reading journey. Thanks for sharing this and it’s a pleasure when we get to see informative and fantastic videos from you😊

Reading every day is a must for me. 😊💙

Your family is beautiful. 😊

As with so many others, reading is a top priority in my life. It's a necessity. My daily average is just over five hours a day, some days only one hour (travel and adventures; I'm an expat), other times eight hours. I don't have littles at home and I don't watch TV. As a homemaker I do have the time and am filled with gratitude for it. 😊

Thank you for your friendly and thoughtful videos! I appreciate the time and effort they must take.

Reading while tired is a bridge I’m trying to cross now. I can be dead tired — then something, some unexpected external event happens — and then all of a sudden tiredness evaporates. So I’m trying to learn how to harness this fact — shake things up (or sometimes a brief power nap) and then get back into it.

You are so right! I never watch TV so that helps a lot.

Oh such cute little boys!! 💛💛 And dog!
I agree. You make time for what you want to do. Phon scrolling is a huge waste of time! And I only watch TV if it's something I really want to watch (probably about 1 hour per week).
Reading whilst cooking - yes!
Always have an audiobook on while doing household chores or driving to work.
Good tips 😊

This was such a wonderful video, Shelly! ☺️ Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks! Now having a full time job, I am definitely learning to read when tired.

I like how realistic you are because I am a single mom of 3 and a high school English teacher. The nature of my job requires that I read A LOT and that makes me mentally exhausted most days. Most of my reading is done in July and early August when I really get a holiday from grading essays. I like your tips because they sound like what I do sometimes but there are times when I don't read for even a week and that usually makes me a little sad. Thanks for sharing your hacks. The most impactful one for me is to observe my time, energy and situation so that I can capitalize on these. Thanks for sharing. Subbed!

When I still lived in Albany, I frequently spent all Saturday after services and Shabbos lunch by the pond that was my apartment's backyard. I also frequently stayed all day at the student center, and did a lot of reading there. Other times I walked over to the campus library and read until it was time to come back for evening services and the third meal of the day (kind of like a light dinner of leftovers).

I think I did the most concentrated amount of reading in my life during the eleven months I couldn't walk, since I didn't have much else I could do but sit in bed or propped up on a chair or the davenport and read.

You. Read. My. Mind. I was actually going to EMAIL you (since you so graciously include it in your info). I strive for 2 hours after dinner M-F. Sometimes I can only do 1 before the eyelids get heavy and I start reading the same sentence over and over. On weekends I can get in a good 5 each day!! Helps to have a significant other that likes to play Call of Duty! 😜 As a follow-up… I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on improving reading comprehension and how YOU achieve that. Do you highlight? Take notes? That would be a great “Part 2” for this subject! PS I started Bunny last night because of you!! ❤ About to dive back in for a good block of time today!! 💃

audiobooks and ebooks usually help me read a lot more. Sometimes holding the large 500+ page book psychs me out of wanting to read it because it looks so big - but on my e reader its not as daunting. I like listening to audiobooks during my morning/evening routine when things are very hands on. Sometimes I do tandem reading of the same book as audiobook and ebook.

I'm so flabbergasted that you upload the very video which I'd love to watch. Actually I was trying to watch a video where all my queries could be answered.

I find there are books I can't read at certain times like I can't read denser books when I'm tired, because I won't take it all in and understand what I'm reading, but I am improving on that. I have pick and choose certain types book when in bed or during my 15 minutes break at work because some of my books need a certain kind of concentration and mindset from me to read them and take it in.
