I think its important to recognise that a lot of Bookstubers are also English or literature students/read as part of their job! So many of their read books are required texts or additional study. If you're in school or study something like science it will always be harder to read this much for a host of reasons, so there's no point comparing yourself to people like this! As long as you're consistently getting through your own reading list, the number you tick off doesn't matter <3

Reminder for people who study, work, struggle with mental or physical health: you're still a bookwork and book lover regardless of how many books you manage to read. I find myself feeling awful since I never manage to read as much as most booktubers but then remember I work a lot, I study, I have chronic mental and physical health issues so it's okay.

Love to you all. Be kind to yourself and enjoy your reading time.

Ngl it’s just as valid to read 10 books a year than it is for 150 books a year- if you took in and loved those 10 books, then you might have enjoyed those 10 way more than someone who read 150! Quality is way more important than quantity!

I used to be a huge bookworm when I was in primary school but then I kind of just stopped because going on my phone or watching TV was an easier way to escape from stress. Now I’m 21 and I’ve gotten back into this once beloved hobby of mine and I read sooo much now. Like a minimum of 1 1/2 hours per day. It has honestly had such a big impact on my mental health and everything. It’s crazy. I’m so glad I picked up reading again. 🥺❤️

My mom has kept a list of books she's read since highschool. She's at over 10, 000 books now.

one thing that's helped me get through classics is to see them as regular books, because... that's what they are?? when classics were first published, they weren't seen as a huge piece of classical literature, but as a common book you would find in a bookstore. also, most classics are just people in their early 20s going through an ongoing life crisis because it's impossible to know which period of your life is the middle, i'd say it makes them less intimidating

I'm a 44-year-old mother of four who still manages to squeeze in as much reading as I can throughout the day. With all the (mostly pointless) distractions these days from the internet and cell phones, I am SO happy to see that young people like you are still reading books and getting so much enjoyment from them! Thank you for promoting reading. You've inspired me to read even more than I already do!

Hi friends :) I haven’t watched the video yet (I have a lecture I must go to first... I’ll be back lol), so idk if Ruby discussed this, but I wanted to make a quick note that being a bookworm shouldn’t be determined by how many books you read! If you love books but only read one or two when you can that’s totally okay! You are still a bookworm! Don’t ever feel bad if you don’t have the time to read or buy new books. You are still a bookworm! Don’t feel bad if you can’t read for hours at a time, either because you don’t have the time or maybe the attention span to do so. You’re still a bookworm!

And this isn’t me hating on Ruby! I think it’s incredible that she’s read so many books. Just please don’t feel like you have to compare yourself! Reading isn’t a competition between people and it doesn’t have to be a competition with yourself. Just go at whatever pace you feel is necessary and don’t feel bad if you’ve haven’t read hundreds of books. Even if you’ve read only a few but those few were incredible, I think that’s a major accomplishment :)

With love,
A fellow bookworm ❤️🐛

P.s. Instead of reading more books, I think a good goal is to just read more in general, if you don’t want to feel pressured by numbers :) of course it’s fun to see how many books you can read, but that doesn’t equate to how much of a bookworm you are :)

University killed my love for reading but two years later I'm getting my love back for it again ❤️

I have a weird rule where I can only read one book at a time, and I have to finish any book I start. Mostly because I can’t keep track of multiple books at once, and because I don’t want to give up on books that might pick up later on. But sometimes I get stuck on one book for months!

I also want to add: there is NO hierarchy between reading mediums. An audiobook is just as much of a book as a physical book. I’m personally completely unable to read physical books, and I genuinely thought reading wasn’t for me for so long, until I tried audiobooks. Audiobooks are books and physical paperbacks or kindles are not your only options!!

I work in a bookshop and I absolutely LOVE when someone comes in, reads one of my staff picks, and buys the book! Thank you for recommending recommendations! When I'm in a slump, I usually go for a graphic novel; they're also great for me to help break up the heaviness of non-fiction. Also, I love thrift books for affordable books! They have $3 paperbacks that saved me a fortune in college. I also love library book sales in normal times. To raise money, libraries (at least in my area of the US) will sometimes sell books really cheaply-- they're usually books that no one has checked out in a long time or books they have excessive multiples of. Of course, there's always checking out and returning books as well.

I’ll usually be reading 4 books at a time:
- A Nonfiction History Book (like Alexander Hamilton or An American Aristocracy: The Livingstons)
- A Classic (like The Federalist Papers or Evelina)
- A Fiction Book (like Ladies of Devon or Books of Bayern)
- An Easy Historical Book (like Anne of Green Gables, Territorial Rights, or Arrowsmith)
