Wiemer is real deal. I got to talk to the winemaker Fred at EWE and that guy is doing stuff I can't even fathom as a winemaker. I know he won winemaker of the year, but that dude needs WAY more attention.

The Finger Lakes also do Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and Grüner Veltliner exceptionally well. Check out Ravines, Weis, Dr. Konstantine Frank, Fulkerson, Red Newt, and Hector Wine Company + many, many more.

I love Long Island. My wife and I have made four trips to the North Fork. There are a number of quaint towns and the thin strip of land means you are always close to the ocean. KontokostaI offers beautiful Ocean views. I like that you referenced Paumanok Vineyards. Their Cab Francs are bigger than those of the Finger Lakes. Often more so than the Cab Sauvs of the area. Same is true for the Ohio Grand River Valley, an excellent sub-appellation for this varietal.

Finger Lakes has been an under the radar source of quality Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Bordeaux cultivars and Lemberger(Blaufrankish) for some time now. I didn't know about the other NY state wine regions/AVAs, so thanks for making this video. So far my favorite U.S. Riesling was from the Finger Lakes, I also had a Lemberger from there that was a bit over the hill. But that was probably because it took a long time to get from the States to me here in Taiwan. Unfortunately, the market here is primarily focused on California and Napa, Washington and Oregon wine are starting to appear somewhat more often. But they are still very much a niche market with limited availability. Hopefully some brave wine importing companies will try to bring them into the wine market here. Thanks again for great content presented in clear & fun way. BTW, Madeleine I thought your outfit today was pretty chic; nice wardrobe selection.

I live near the Finger Lakes and have tasted at many. Some of my favorites: Red Tail Ridge (great sparklings), Kemmeter (mind-blowing Rieslings) and Shaw (fantastic reds).

Nice overview of NY wines but there is so much to cover. Try Damiani Wines on Seneca Lake for some unforgettable wines. I think New York wines deserve another video!

Cornell has such an interesting breeding program for vinifera x lambrusca crossings, they have some interesting varietals and clones!

Thanks! It's a region that I want to know more professionally. I want to taste some of those Saperavis and Blaufränkischs being produced up there.

I’ve heard of and had Wiemer’s wines. It is usually the “New York wine” that is available in my areas wine stores. Looking forward to seeking out other producers

Nailed it. Both are so similar. Pro level audio overdub. I’ve had to do the same thing more times than I can count. Nicely done.

Love the vid! Hermann J Wiemer is an AMAZING winery, Riesling and sparkling are top drawer. Equalling the great Mr. Wiemer is Dr. Konstantin Frank (another German visionary) located on the western slope of Keuka Lake....you may think you are in Mosel! Lots of reds too including very interesting Saperavi.

Much love from Niagara Wine Region - Canada

I enjoyed your video! I love the finger lake region wine. My favorites are standing stone winery on Seneca lake and heron Hill on Canandaigua lake. Keuka lake has many more well known wineries like bully Hill and Dr. Frank konstantin.

Thanks! for the info, I will have to try the L.I. Cabs and Sparklings again it's been 4+ years since visiting the region. As for the Finger Lakes I agree with Andrew Sowers and MZ comment's and even add a few more Billsboro, Damiani and Atwater are all on Seneca, Domaine LeSeurre and Living Roots (FLX pop-up) on Keuka.

Love your videos. Thank you for featuring some wines from the Northeast! You mention French/American hybrids, as they are popular in New York. I'd love to see another video with more information on hybrids. We are a small, family-owned vineyard and winery in central Massachusetts and we feel very strongly that hybrid varieties are the way forward, particularly in our changing climate. It's hard for a Northeast winery to claim they have terroir when they are planting fussy vinifera varieties that may die in the winter or succumb to disease in our humid summers. Hybrids are more adaptable to unpredictable climactic conditions and they offer better pest and disease resistance, not to mention new and exciting flavors and aromas. Anyway, your channel is great. Cheers!

Thank you for highlighting New York. I live just 1 hour from the Finger Lakes AVA. Until just recently I would never buy a New York red. That changed with a visit to Ravines on Seneca Lake. Their La Petite Corporal, a Bordeaux blend is the best New York red I’ve ever had. Try to find it.

When I purchase New York wines, I am partial to both the Millbrook Winery and Brotherhood winery Reds 🍷
