Who else didn’t know that artichokes were hairy inside? 🙋🏾

I'm always baffled how our ancestors just stare at a plant and decided 'it's FOOD!!!'

Thank you! You are the first cook I've seen not throw away half the artichoke. Those looked so good. Thank you for giving the humble artichoke some love.

I feel like this is way too much work for one dish that isn’t that much

😊 Thank you! We've always over-boiled them without cutting. As a kid, it was tough but delicious. 🌹 You just demonstrated THE BEST artichoke go-to recipe I've ever seen. 🌻 Beautiful, easy & tasty, can't wait.

People say "why would you eat crawfish? That's too much work for such little meat" then go and eat artichokes.

Artichokes seem like one of the most wasteful veggies to me

Is it just me or does it seem like too much work and deconstruction for so little food in the end?

I just realized I've never eaten artichokes in my entire life and did not learn until this video that only parts of it was edible.

I wash and cut off the leaf tips, peel or cut off a few of the lowest leaves, cut the stem mostly off wrap each in saran wrap and microwave on high long enough that random leaves pull off easily. Quick easy and tasty! A cold one w a special mayo dip (check on line) are delicious. Artichokes have a very unique taste. I know of nothing commonly known that taste like them so you'd have just try one. She doesn't describe how to eat them. Pull a leaf off turn it upside down and then drag the leaf across your bottom teeth. As you get to the middle there will be leaves too fine to eat and are covering the top of the "heart" but directly under these leaves are the "choke" part of the plant. Also called the "beard" This is inedible! Gently scoop out the thin leaves along w the choke and it all will pull away from the top of the heart. When it's been removed you have nothing but the "heart" of the plant and it's all solid artichoke "meat". It is worth all of the "work" to get to the heart! Bon Appetit!

In my family we always boil them with lemon, lime and vinegar. And we leave them whole. And our sauce to go with it is a white sauce. Both my parents make it this way but they have been separated for almost 20 years

I wonder who's the first person that actually thought it's edible?

If you steam or boil them in shallow water whole for about 20 to 30 mins and then drizzle them in salted Garlic oil and rosemary, wrap them in foil and bake or bbq them they taste wonderful and you can eat damn near half the artichoke.

My grandma used to make me artichokes all the time. She added shreaded Parmesan to the artichokes, and also made a garlic butter sauce, but she added fresh herbs.

So yummy! 💜

Impressive how fast and well you prepared those artichokes. I’ve seen pro chefs just completely screw them up.

I used to eat a lot of them as a kid when I was at my Grandma's in France. She usually just boiled them and we'd have a Vinaigrette sauce where we would dip the leaves in kind using them as kind of a spoon. And then we would eat the artichoke "meat"on the leave and toss them aside until only the heart was left. We'd remove the hairy part and eat it. It's my least favorite part though plucking the leaves one by one and eating was really fun.
