It is true weight ability is important during the first hour and ten upgrades in level, but ... then your avatar freezes to death at least once and sometimes a torch is just not enough. The other option, which is likely more useful than collecting resources right away is to explore the map. Each time your avatar dies, pick a different respawn point until you have managed to explore a large share of what is possible on that map. The advantage is you will have a better idea just how safe, or dangerous those areas are right away. Don't worry about eating, drinking, or collecting resources and crafting since the next death allows another respawn to reveal more of the map. You can also craft a few things for another level or two once you are satisfied you have revealed enough of the map and are ready to settle down. By then you will also have a good idea what areas are still available for constructing a base, if any beach zones are open. Clearly this is a strategy most new players will not know to employee right off in the first hours of gameplay.

Anyone else having a glitch sometimes when you dismount and the camera gets stuck in your body, or it acts like you're in 'K' mode but you can't interact with anything? This happens at least once a day to me.

Mind wipes - As said, they are very useful and an excellent way to change, or assign points to your avatar to meet current desires in ability. It is also a great way to change what your avatar can craft since there always comes a point when a Engram either loses importance, or becomes very important to have. The catch is you cannot use a Mind Wipe as often as you might desire. I think the limit is one per 24 hours, so you will have to wait until the next time you play to use another one and change your avatar's abilities, and Engrams. A good example is how much weight the avatar can carry, and higher crafting skill when constructing a huge base of operations. You might be changing your base from a stone fortress to all metal and want to be able to do more per gaming session. Another would be wanting to be able to do more while hunting, or fighting an END game boss.

The hidden hotbar is default set for most new players, meaning you have to hold down the Q key for about a second, or two for it to show. You cancel the hidden hotbar by pressing the Q key again for about half a second. Notice there is a 9 on the left size and a 0 on the other end of the hidden hotbar. Press either to rotate from one hidden hotbar to the other. So far I have not been able to select what is shown in the hidden hotbars and there are only two.

As noted, having a flying pet you can ride can be a huge advantage in gameplay, but .... and here is the issue for new players - there is a ton of things to learn how to do. One thing that is often true on most servers, including the Official servers is some players want to help new players and will offer better pets for free, or at a low cost. Tell the other players who are online when you are that you are new and need help. If you gain a response try to offer to buy pets, starting with flyers and remind the other players you have just arrived and started on this server. There are many types of flyers in the game, but they are mostly useless without a saddle. They also need to be fed with the required food type, or they starve to death. I am assuming you have started your base build and have something to offer in trade for some extra pets the other players have and don't need.

As stated, the purpose of collecting loot drops and other options that become available in caves and other places is the blueprints. The blueprints are going to offer better crafting options at a higher ability, or rating. At first, the next level of blueprint above what you can craft by investing in basic crafting skills through the Engrams system will be with a green background labeled Ramshackle. The better blueprints will have a change in the background color, a different label and will require more materials to craft the object. If you noticed, Teachers avatar is well above level 50, and he has made a lot of investments into various avatar abilities, so he can do a lot more than your avatar can as a new player. Each time your avatar gains a level, it takes more experience points to gain the next level and this process is a very long and ever slower game element. Hence the reason I said only the stubborn, determined, and players will a very high tolerance level for Early Access games will continue to play.

You do need to mention Otters are rare creatures in ARK. Always have been and tend to be found in the dangerous zones. As if that wasn't bad enough, they are not easy to tame. Something first time players won't know how to do and are likely to find taming one near impossible if they get lucky enough to see one in the first week of gameplay at three hours per day. The key point is new players will normally seek the safest zones, which happen to be very rare Otter spawn zones. Obviously something you have forgotten after playing so much ARK Survival Evolved and the newer version: Ascended.

Loot drops/crates have a level requirement, so don't think you can collect from one before the time limit expires. At first the only loot drops you can collect from will be the white ones, but I think your avatar needs to be at least level 5. Green is available around level 15, or so. It has been a while since I was new to the Official server I am playing on, so I am not sure about the minimum levels each loot drop type requires. Get to one before the timer expires and it will tell you what level you need to be if your avatar is under the required level. As stated, loot drops are important to always collect from and the ones with the red ring, even better. I am assuming your avatar has enough weight ability to not become overloaded if everything to taken. I am also assuming your base of operations has plenty of additional storage for stuff you no longer want and you have unlocked some of the extra storage for others to check out and take if they want. A small shed near your main building can serve as a FREE to TAKE place for the extra unlocked storage and supplies.

Explorer notes in boxes, or jars on Official servers don't always work as explained. Even worse, some ruins don't have either a box, or jar to open while seeking a bump up in levels, or a temporary boost in experience points gained by doing a task, or two. Some boxes and jars you open by standing on them do nothing, but that is assuming the ruin you find has a box, or jar to open. No doubt this is causing a lot of complaints by experienced players that know how to make complaints. It may be after earning enough levels the bump up in levels is disabled, as well as getting a temporary boost in experience points gained by doing tasks. It is also possible the notes are turned off due to a bug, or two they are trying to fix. In short, the game is in Early Access, so expect it to have issues and need a lot more programming just like the original game still does. Keep in mind the original game never did come off of Early Access, so the same is likely true of this version.

Just getting back into ARK now that ASA is out. I was still more or less a beginner though so most of these I found very helpful. I hope they fix that invisible poop bug though. I see it is the same for you as it is me. It's there, you can still pick it up if you aim correctly, but it's not visible.

If your mounted when your trigger Explorer Notes, the mount also get massive XP bump same as the player, I find it useful to not get the notes untill I have a good flyer then, hunt them down to power level my flyer

Weirdly, sometimes the baby tames give me bonus tame levels. Sometimes, they don't. It's unrelated to imprints, but I haven't found a pattern yet--taming the parent first doesn't seem to make it consistent.

i think claiming a wild baby is just worth it as long as you cant tame the parents. like a rex when your level is so low you dont have tranqs. the bonus level you get from taming will top the imprint bonus in most cases. also you dont know if you can imprint it in the end so taming the parents and then maybe breed and imprint a baby later is the better option imho.

First 10 lvl is not weight when doing a note run. Used to be speed but now should be stamina. Then you can do weight!
