Please let me know if during installation you joined the pfSense WAN and LAN as well: 

WAN -> em1 
LAN -> em0

If I understand correctly, I do:

VMware                 Pfsense VM Properties       PFSense Install
           
vmnic0 -> LAN       nic1 -> ISP                         WAN -> em1
vmnic1 -> ISP        nic2 -> LAN                        LAN  ->  em0
