In NC it’s just an auction though. So the tax amount owned is a moot point. We have paid $480, 000 on a property with only $21, 000 in taxes.

Very helpful information. However, the county doesn't hold the property for a number of months - The upset period is only 10 days in NC. If no one outbids you in those 10 days, the property is yours.

Are there any workshops in 2023? I'm just looking to get a parcel in a rural area to hunt on. How do I perform the title search to make sure there arent any liens that will survive the tax auction. Otherwise i'd imagine a big lender isn't gonna lose property. I'd be up to paying to attend one of your workshops. I want to start with about 3K and see how it goes.
