In some cases where you do get a deed: beware. Many abandoned properties have environmental issues. If you wind up with it - congrats, you've got a Real Estate STD. You can't sell without cleaning up someone else's toxic mess. Should you have been made aware? Yeah, but In these united states of ours, there are some towns and counties that would love to get your $$ for their back taxes and leave you holding the bag. Not saying you can't make money, but do your homework.

Didn't work in California Sacramento County. Assessor's office told me that the Lien information was through the recorders office. The recorders office said that there are no auctions. All liens are sold by individual owners.

Seems to good to be true to actually take the property yourself. If there is a mortgage on the property, the bank will just take the property back and pay you the tax/interest.

I have noticed with my county's OTC that there's a lot of Mineral rights property, sign property, pond property. Have you ever purchased these? If you did is it something that you just let sit or do you foreclose on it?
