DOOM 2016, am i right? (This is a comedic joke because I am referencing to the idea of thinking DOOM 2016 is better than Eternal being a pathetic opinion. Please laugh now as I no longer have any friends. They have all abandoned me in this sad, dark state of emptiness of which I will remain in for all of eternity).

2016 is for atmosphere, Eternal is for challenge.

If I may: DOOM 2016 elevated the franchise from DOOM 3 by returning to the kinetic and badass FPS gameplay the franchise was known for, and Eternal elevated beyond 2016 by delivering even more than we could’ve imagined. Eternal is superior, but that’s not to say 2016 was in any way, shape or form “bad”.

In summary: Pigeon-Man is correct.

2016 brought the franchise back to life and returned to core and Eternal expanded even beyond that. They're both great games but Eternal is clearly the superior game. Unless we're talking about the Multiplayer, I actually prefer 2016's multiplayer cause that was like og doom death match. You think John Romero is still up for another match of death match?

However I think both are very very different, and neither are "FACTUALLY" better than each other.

No matter which you prefer is perfectly valid and acceptable IMO.

DOOM (2016) is AWESOME in every single aspect. The problem for DOOM is that DOOM Eternal takes everything that made DOOM so great and awesome and makes it even better times two.

2016’s atmosphere is more similar to DOOM 3 while Eternal stays faithful to the original games. Both are different and I love both games, but Eternal is the DOOM game id Software really wanted to make.

I like both games. Although they both looks the same, in practice are completely different. Both games are fast-paced, depends of how you play it, and most importantly, both games are fun.

I think the community needs to separate the idea that being good at Eternal means *solely* being good at the game, and that disliking Eternal equates to *not* being good at the game. After 2 years of playing it non-stop I'd say it's closer to whether or not you can (or want) to conform to Hugo's Playstyle and very specific designer intentions.

I got absolutely sick of the quickswap meta after getting to level 50 in the Multiplayer, and the fact that there's no equivalency for DPS (automatic) weapons, leaving them as a lower-class compared to any gun that's high burst damage (SSG, Ballista, Rockets, PB, etc., is pretty much an 'our way or the highway' situation. Sure, I'm a weirdo that's never liked SSG, but the difference is that 2016 isn't throwing a hissy fit at me for not wanting to use it lmfao
