Just had a procedure for an ultrasound, removed my pants, and the female tech, who looked about 18, told me that I needed to remove my underwear too. Was very uncomfortable, it was dead silence during the procedure that lasted about 15 minutes. Had I known, would have requested an older woman tech.

This is sexist but I think that when it comes to male specific issues, male doctors should handle that and with female specific issues, female doctors should handle those.

Don't use a woman for any intimate service- I have had several bad experiences- they can't handle it professionally

I love the way women think they are so professional, know everything about mens health and carrying out an intimate exam that is both humiliating and degrading coz they've 'seen it all before' and its no big deal - get over it.

Then the second women need intimate care, well....men know nothing about caring for women and cant be professional, with women only clinics, refusing to hire male medical assistants or sonographers and ensuring men never treat them the way they treat men. I think it says a lot about the real victims of sexism/respect today.

As long as there are only females doing below the belt scans I'll refuse to have one. I'll fly to a state where there are only men on the staff for these type of procedures. I don't give a rats tail about what anyone has to say about it. I'll tell the doctor to his face and already have done so. This one sided country where anything goes.

Getting this injustice changed at least in the American healthcare system is going to be a task.

The reason being is because society & the healthcare industry have viewed men as strong, heartless, emotionless warriors. Males are expected to put up, shut up, and take anything the medical community throws their way.

The biggest taboo to talk about in an open forum in the US healthcare industry is putting protections in place to protect a man's privacy and dignity as they did for women already.

Talking about it would be tantamount to the industry openly admitting they've been stealing men's privacy all along. Some gentlemen would even go so far as to call it rape.

The industry is freely trading dollars which they'd have to spend to hire male nurses and technicians for the lives of their male patients that they refuse to help.

The other reason this change might be slow in coming is that most men, have no idea what abuse is coming their way because many doctors don't or won't tell the guy up front exactly what the steps are to what he/she wants done. Reason being that'd probably ask for same gender care. Something the healthcare industry is trading dollars for men's lives on.

For example. A man has BPH. His physician recommends he see a urologist about it. Now he doesn't say anything to his patient as to what might happen. He just sends him on to the specialist.

So he brings his paperwork & goes to talk to a urologist. The urologist recommends the Urolift procedure to ease his symptoms. He tells him they can do the procedure right there in the office now rather than the hospital.

Now, what this guy hasn't been told is this urologist has no male nurses to offer to his mostly male patients to help ease them thru what's coming. Nor does he tell the patient how the procedure is performed.

So the guy agrees to the procedure as he is uncomfortable because of the symptoms.

This gentleman has no clue from the doctor as how this procedure will be done, this man will have to face for the first time in his life most likely the fact that his legs will be placed up in stirrups.

Some guys might get a thrill out of it. I suspect many won't.

He doesn't know, he has the right to stop everything at this point and leave. The healthcare industry has guys believing they must take it and shut up because they'd rather trade dollars for lives before they hire some male personnel.

The guy will have his legs lifted into the stirrups by a woman. Then that woman will proceed to prep the gentleman, then to make the psychological and emotional demeaning complete, she will grab hold of his tool and place a pre-filled syringe of lidocaine jelly down thru the tip into his urethra to numb it so the doctor can put the Urolift tool into his penis while she watches the whole time.

After she does that, you wait 10-20 minutes then the doctor comes in and low and behold, he has yet another female nurse with him.

Now you're laid out in the stirrups for two women to take a look at you all laid out.

After doc gets in they place a drape up by your head so you can't see what's going on down below.

The nurse that places the drape is the "chaperone" for this procedure. Most facilities have a rule "can't be in with exposed patient without chaperone", whether patient likes it or not.

That nurse up by your head, is supposed to keep her eyes "locked" with yours the whole time she's in there but human nature as it is, she can't help staring at the bottom of the table rather than locking eyes with you.

If this type of procedure isn't worthy of same gender can I don't know what is.

By allowing women to assist in this procedure they are knowingly TOTALLY DISRESPECTING their male patients. YOU have the same right to same gender care as they give women for intimate care & procedures.

What many men don't know but need to know is if it's prostate, scrotal, bladder, or rectal related, over 90% of the time, YOU WILL BE PLACED IN STIRRUPS.

If you don't want women in the room for these types of procedures, YOU HAVE TO SPEAK UP.

Sooner the better.

Lets get their dirty little secret OUT IN THE OPEN so they have to put protections in place to protect male privacy & dignity.

I too has been victimized by female staff workers. Let me tell you my story, my ears was clogged with water, i thought i lost my hearing in one ear. Then my dad told me come with him to ear/ nose hospital which i did. There, the female doctor was smiling at me before examination. But during the examination she was disgusted at me saying to my dad that my ears was full of earwax. Both me and my dad was embarassed. I admit i should taken more care about myself but still embarassing patients like that is no fun. That incident keeps me away from hospitals unless its too big issue to solve. Had my examination been done by a male doctor, i wouldnt have felt that much embarassment. Its not that im sexist, buts its how we as human feels.☺

These comments are laughable. I could are less what the gender of a nurse or doctor is. It’s about getting well and having a good provider. Ignoring a procedure because you’re embarrassed makes no sense to me. Do what you have to do so I can be treated. Get over your embarrassment. It could save you life.
