Excellent video as ever. But honestly I miss the videos from DMS instructors. They were my stop shop to abdominal ultrasound. Wish I could see them again.

Any patients who have one of these exams ordered really needs to watch orientation videos such as this. In fact, I would say any facility that has a patient coming in should be sent a link and then given a place to check a box that they watched it and understood it. This would save a lot of awkwardness between the sonographer and the patient.

Another thing this video seems to gloss over is if the patient wants a same-gender sonographer. They should be given the choice well in advance.

2:05 _”If at any point there is tension in the exam or inappropriate behavior or comments, it’s OK … to ask a co-worker to chaperone the exam.”_

Don’t invite any “chaperones” if the patient doesn’t consent to it. In this case, the word “chaperone” is the equivalent of “prison guard.” Chaperones need to be SPECIALLY TRAINED to serve in that capacity. You can’t just go and grab a co-worker to “chaperone” the exam. That’s just TOTALLY OFFENSIVE and violates the concept of CONSENT.

If the patient is making the tech feel uncomfortable, then maybe a woman should never have been doing a scrotal exam in the first place. Male patients usually show up with a condition they did NOTHING to cause. Now a FEMALE enters the picture and all of a sudden the person with the testicles is the ‘bad guy.’

0:40 *Indications & Patient Prep:* No patient prep

Hmm, really? Because at the 10:00 minute timestamp you say, _“And the last thing to do is to clean the probe really, really well.”_ Seems like if there’s a risk of contamination between one patient and the next patient and the next patient over the course of just one single day, patients should be required to wash with that disinfectant they make patients use before surgeries. I’m sure there are some pretty grody individuals out there and we don’t want to come in and contract a nosocomial infection.

Patients should also be encouraged to watch videos like these before coming in so they know how to make things less awkward for the tech. The awkwardness the patient feels is often due to the patient having to expose his genitalia to a female he’s never met before. It goes against all our conditioning from the time we started going through puberty. That’s where a lot of the shame and embarrassment come in.

And after that, if patients wear a face mask, then the tech would never recognize them in the real world. And if the tech wears a face mask, then they wouldn’t be recognized either.

I would definitely need an extremely high dose of Valium to survive this.

How to differentiate additional testicle from epidydimis? The echogenicity seems similar and the rest of the epi (body, tail) may be difficult to visualize.

Can you request a male technician as this would be rather embarrassing a procedure to be done by a female

You need to hire a lot more male sonographers to do these tests, although I'm sure you can find more ways to embarrass and humiliate your male patients.
