Film Theory: How To Beat Freddy Krueger! (A Nightmare on Elm Street) w/ Dead Meat

There have been MANY installments to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise over the years. I've been looking through them with my current free time and realised that NO ONE is really "winning" against Freddy Krueger in these movies. He's always there once they, inevitably, fall asleep. I want to figure out how you can actually BEAT Freddy Krueger at his own nightmarish games.

Matpat talking about the terrifying experience of being terrified by the box covers of horror movies in blockbuster is very nostalgic. Ironically a lot of the horror movie covers that scared me the most as a kid ended up being very tame or bad movies, but hey at least they new how to make creepy covers.

Thing is though, you didn’t have to be in REM sleep for Freddy to get you. Plenty of his victims had just nodded off for a second in class or something and got nailed.

Technically if Freddy is attacking people in *their* dreams, the victims should be able to control their own dreams as soon as they realize they are dreaming.

I’m surprised Matpat didn’t even bother to bring that they literally do this in Freddy Vs Jason, using drugs to keep the kids from having dreams.

Great vid! Unfortunately, dreaming isn't limited to the REM cycle. This is an old belief that has been debunked. More recent studies have found that dreaming also takes place during non-REM. Speaking from personal experience as well, dreaming can take place during all parts of the sleep cycle. My nightmares start the second I fall asleep and don't let up until I wake. No matter what time I wake up during the night, it is always in the middle of a dream. Even a short nap will have me go straight into a nightmare. Freddy hasn't gotten me yet though!
