First day to start my hopefully successful journey. Day 1 of asking Luke to name a fish Geoff after my favourite and beloved goldfish who I miss very much. Thank you Luke for guiding me through my goldfish keeping journey till its ( temporary end ) when my last goldfish that I bought the day before passed away.

Keep ones with dorsal fins. Might be just fancy heritage from their various breeds ancestors. They'd delevoped into nice chunks though. Never know!

I can fully understand why culling is legitimately necessary, I’ve had goldfish where they can’t swim at all and it’s actually really sad. We had to euthanize them cause they were messed up for like a month, and weren’t getting better. I believe theirs was caused by an infection/disease, but even birth defects could cause stuff like it. The only if-y culling I can see is doing it based off of appearance if it’s just for looks, but like you’ve said before, the large majority of the babies don’t make it too long since they can easily get eaten.

I kid you not, some supermarkets here in Japan sell farmed for food goldfish to be eaten alive. Never seen anyone buy them but obviously there is a market for it. Culture is beautiful no matter how hard it is to understand sometimes.
