The access keys also provide the safety mechanism to prevent channelers from overdrawing, probably sort of like a valve that he can adjust the flowrate to something he can manage.
If a channeller were to use the Chodaen Kal directly instead of thru an access key, the torrent of OP will be full blast and will instantly kill him and destroy his surrounding.

I imagine channelling as moving an electrical current thru a resistor, the higher the voltage the bigger the current. A channeller's strength is like his resistance value, the lower it is, the more current can pass thru him without overheating and blowing out the resistor. Linking is like an electrical series with all resistors in parallel. An angreal is like adding a much much lower ohm resistor in parallel, so that the angreal bear most of the current load instead.

A sa'angreal is like a combination of a lower Ohm resistor plus cooling fins plus a transformer to increase the voltage. And the access keys for the Choedan Kal is like the regulation knob to control the transformer, so that the current doesn't overheat the resistor that represents the channeler.

Since RJ was a physics major, I dare say that V=IR was what he was thinking of when he designed the channelling system

Damn the choedan kal are some of the coolest concepts in fantasy imho so ill be low-key mad if they majorly change the concept of it, not gonna lie...

I’m concerned about the lack of news about Callendor!

For Sakarnen, I can provide a possible answer: I got to speak to Brandon for over an hour back before ToM was released, and due to my dedication to Demandred, it was all about him. When I discussed the bit in aCoS when Liah goes missing in Shadar Logoth, and LTT starts ranting about Demandred, Rand asks him if there is a connection between Demandred and Shadar Logoth and never gets an answer. I told Brandon my theory: Demandred went to Sindhol (the Aelfinn/Eelfinn realm) to find a way to surpass LTT, because he was tired of the man who was supposed to have been his friend (who rubbed his nose in EVERYTHING he could (Rand's thoughts in aMoL about how Demandred SHOULD have been a hero, back me up on this part!) for over 400 years!!) taking away anything he tried to do. While there, he asked for a way to stop the Shadow. Now, we know from Moiraine that anything asked of the Snakes that has to do with the Shadow usually rebounds on the asker. Brandon also acknowledged my thoughts that Mordeth had also gone to Sindhol through the redstone doorframe, and became distorted in the process, bringing the evil that warped Aridhol with him. Now, Barid Bel Medar, at the time he went, had asked for a solution he could use to end the Shadow. Remember: (this is also backed by Rand in aMoL) Barid Bel was the one who discovered the ancient texts about war and decifered them, producing things like the use of swords and the forms for fighting with them (yeah, he was the one who gave the world "Heron Wading in the Rushes", which was used by Lan before "Sheathing the Sword"...) I can say, almost 100% certainty, that Sakarnen was what was given to him (hence it being attuned to him since, in the AoL, ter'angreal and angreal existed that were made for use by specific individuals (I know in the books there are a few pieces that the Wondergirls encounter that seem "made" for a specific person)), much in the same way Mat received his Ashendarei. Once Demandred turned to the Shadow, it was taken from him in some way, and it was "broken" so it couldn't be used (thus his questing in RoS to find the pieces once he escaped from the Bore).
So, in response to your comment about it being "cursed" in some way, it's most likely because it was something corrupted by the Finn before given to Barid Bel.

Wild! I did not call this one. It will be interesting to see how they work out this mashup.

Hey John, as always, Good Stuff! I’m a book reader first, show watcher second. I read the last 4 or so books while having infants and working graveyard shift so my memory basically sucks after Winters Heart minus big events. Keep it up man!!

I've no idea if Sakarnen was hinted at in the notes or a Sanderson creation, but my first read I felt that there had to be a cup sa'angreal just to give that echo with san greal, the Holy Grail.

What makes me sad, though, if they're going to simplify the Choedan Kal into a single sa'angreal: it removes a chance for some fun lore around its creation and the link to Lews' desperation at the end, and also Tremalking. I really want To Make an Anchor Weep.

Personally, I've been hoping they would bring the River of Souls content into the show, with maybe 1 episode early S7 focusing on that, ending with the cave (but not finishing it), and never see Demandred again (until...) bolstered by other Forsaken saying they've seen nothing of him recently and he may have been taken off the board. I know it would be stupid expensive, an entire country and culture built for basically 1 episode, so I won't hold my breath, but if they're trying to make the Forsaken more competent and formidable it would be some good story to have.

WoT up Jon! I finally got the WoT tattoo I’ve been planning for a while now. Nope, not a Gawyn tattoo. There can only be one of those…

Yay more of Rand's actions given to another character. I'm not a show hater although I hate how nerfed Show Rand is. Wish he was shown to his potential....

I really hope they keep the male and female parts of Choedan Khal. It's such an important part of the whole men&women need eachother to achieve greatness which is so important to the WoT philosophy. I hope this is a misleading leak.

BUT I'm a book reader and didn't know about Sanderson's Demandred spin off. Need to check it out. Thanks!

I'm always happy for a nice touching Moiraine/ Lan scene ❤.
I loved their dynamic in S1 and S2, so very much, and I hope this continues for
S3 as well.

I'm a book reader, but I STILL learned something because I never read River of Souls! Great video, as always.

Love your new background. I do miss the whiteboard. The round light reflection in the map does bother me a bit

"With the Sakarnen" doesn´t have the same ring to it :( I don´t like the change at all. Is Choedan Kal really that much harder for the average audience to comprehend?

I hope at least it's a pair of them.

The object in S1E8 was described as a sa'angreal by Moiraine. The term "angreal" hasn't been mentioned -- I think the show will merge the two concepts and just have sa'angreal of varying strengths

I’m intrigued that they are calling it sacarnin (sp?). I wonder if the globe (female) and another part (maybe a hand) will fit together to be used together like the male and female statues are used together. Rand and Nyneve can still use both halves to clean the taint. It would visually emphasize male and female working together to do one great task.
