Bought my first car for $400 a VW rabbit with a blown head gasket. I was 17 and did the job myself. Drive that car for a long time

Scotty is going to change his intro "rev up your engines" lately the best advise is drive conservatively 🤔

It only costed me $600 for a new head gasket, cylinder head, and new backing plates. I love my Jeeps straight-six engine it’s easy to work on and the parts are so cheap. I’ve learned so much from working on it with my Dad and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it👍

It's alot cheaper to change your oils/fluids etc., then replace an engine I always say.

Also never put tap water in the car either lol, it will cause it to rust...bought a used car where this was the issue

got a decently rare volvo 760 Turbo for $100 because it had a blown head gasket. i fixed it for $200 by myself and can now sell the car for about 3-4k. i will say that the volvo redblock is one of the easiest engines to work on

When i did my head gasket. Man did i learn a lot. Took me a few days and doing it in pitch black in the middle of the night but i got it back together and running beautifully.

You forgot the main culprit behind head gasket leaks.. bad coolant! The only way you can "Over Rev" a modern engine, is to over rev down shifting with a manual trans. This might happen with some auto trans. Modern cars and motorcycles have "Rev Limiters" ignition or fuel cut off.

That's perfectly described and approached. Change the antifreeze, keep that engine cool. Make sure the thermostat is controlling the maximum temp, change the oil around 3000 miles and use synthetic. Don't rev to near the redline as the pressures in the cylinders could break the seal. I have to respect Scotty's wisdom. I"m an old guy too and he's always echoing what I've heard.

If you're inspecting a car on a lot, and the coolant reservoir is very low or empty, walk away from that car in a hurry.
4 ways to loose coolant, 3 are very expensive and 1 is pretty cheap. That's a losing bet for sure.

121, 300 trouble-free miles on my 2018 Civic. In four years I’ve:

-Changed the oil/filter early using full synthetic at 3, 800-4, 200 mile intervals.
-Replaced the transmission fluid three times.
-Flushed the coolant three times.
-Replaced the water pump and drive belt and replaced the PCV valve.
-Never redlined.
-Rarely exceeded 4, 000 rpm.
-Only use the highest detergent fuel (top-tier).

That’s it. Take care of your vehicle, the vehicle will take care of you.

It should only cost anyone the price of the gasket... it is just a simple tare down then reassemble....

Don't even have temperature gauges anymore!! Just a light, but then it could be too late!

supposably in a prius, whose gas engine stops and starts more often, head gaskets are a problem.

He forgot one of the most important things, change your anti freeze as well. It’s not permanent at minimum every five years

Take good care of your vehicle and it will take good care of you. I still drive my now 31-year-old truck with 225k miles and still looks and drives like new. I take it to the doctor (mechanic) every spring for a checkup.
