I’m only 21 but will probably never buy a new car. Here’s why:

Reasons to buy an old car

4:36 1. The price of modern cars
5:35 2. Working on new cars
7:02 3. Insurance costs on modern cars
8:01 4. Classic cars can be reliable
9:09 5. The cost of new cars
10:19 6. Cool factor
11:29 7. I think ‘old cars’ are the future

Reasons not to buy an old car

11:55 1. No airbags

bro said "bought it for a grand, sold it for 4" like it was a casual car flip, that shit is impressive can't lie

It's almost surprising to see someone young come to this realization that new cars are crap. Salute to you. I'm the same way. I'm 46 and never owned a new car.

I'm a 50 year old American and I am very frugel with my money, I appreciate a young man such as yourself seeing that 50 grand is extraordinary even at your income level, just because one can squeeze out the cost doesn't mean they should, I live in an affuant area of Michigan and the ridiculous money that people spend on vehicles is mind boggling, all my cars are old, I fix them up because its a challenge and its still exponentially cheaper than a new car, insurance is cheap, and I have something unique, and I'm old so I need projects.

Thank you soo much for this video. I recently naught my 3rd old Mercedes. My family doesn’t understand. But I’m glad there’s other 20 year olds that appreciate the classics. 🙏🏼

all these points are solid. Old cars are just cheaper and more fun. You can also usually tell that a person with a classic drives a cool car because they love cars as opposed to a person with a modern sports car, where there's a good chance its just a status symbol.

Here in Belarus many of us (young ppl born after 2000s) buy only old cars (VW Golf m2, mk3 old Passats, and so on, BMW e36 e30 e34, old Mercedes-Benzs) for all reasons that you mentioned in videos, so you are not alone in that world, i hope that videos similar to it will bring more love and respect to old cars and more ppl will give their attention to them. Thx for video.

I bought a 96 740il with 143, 000 miles for 3000 about a year ago, only thing Iv'e done was the alternator and new tires. Never left me stranded and I have driven it to work and school everyday since I bought it.

I own a 1972 w116 and it is way more reliable than our family 2016 bmw, makes no sense but older cars are WAY cheaper and reliable in the long term.

I daily a 1997 miata I bought it last year for £2150, I had to spend £2000 on bodywork had to get new brake discs new suspension joints and springs, new clutch etc… ended up spending about £3000 to get the car completely fixed up. So I spent about £5000-£6000 buying and fixing a 27 year old car with 123k miles. (1.8L engine btw) and it works great. No problems at all after driving 8k miles not broken down once, sailed the yearly MOT test.
Never broke down since I first bought it. So I practically have a brand new NA miata for 1/6th the price of a brand new 2L ND miata. The best part is I don’t have any stupid technology in my car spying on me or just weighing me down.
As someone who is now 20, (I was fresh 19 when I first bought the car), it definitely felt risky at first but it’s probably the best thing I ever done because I’ve always wanted a miata. Only thing was I always wanted an NB but recently found out they rust so much worse than the NA so settled for that instead.

Same here. Classic Benz to use as daily car: 1979, 1990 and 1997.

Great video. Your 190E is epic. Your E21 is great. I used to own a 190E in 1993 and E21 in 1988! I totally agree with you. Today, you don't look at the actual price of the car BUT the monthly payment. With financing, we are merely paying the monthly "rental" and we do not really own it because we keep changing the cars and paying the new "rental" payment through financing.

You should try having an old Volvo. A 240, 740 or an 850R. Really well made cars with easy access to parts and really easy to work on!

Great video, friend. I'm a 30 year old guy and Here in Nigeria, i bought my first car used 10 months ago. It's a Pontiac G3 2010. I was strapped for cash and had no prior experience with mechanical stuff but I have managed to get it running aftef consulting my dad, YouTube and some local mechanics i know. Bought all parts and used tools for the job. It's a temporary thing but at least i have a car which is so needed now. I'm also now looking at going to Trade School for Automotive Technician 😊

Well done! It's just cause you're a car guy- simple as that. You'd rather have something more interesting and that has a chance of being repaired by normal means and still running for years, even if there's a bunch of small headaches along the way! You'll spend less overall as you said, especially re: insurance. And you see plenty of modern cars waiting for a tow because they've broken down.
Got my kid a '99 E-Class for a first car, and I do not regret it.

my father has a Volvo 850R and had a Mercedes CLA45 AMG for around 6 years and I learned to love the Volvo over the AMG. The AMG has more power but it lacks so much in emotions as it’s a “boring” 4 cylinder, full of electronic nannies and a DCT. On the other hand I feel much more engaged with the Volvo as the 5 cylinder is much rawer and sounds so great while also having more fun with its manual transmission. And I can’t have fun with the AMG without breaking the law while the Volvo is always fun

I said the same thing. Then I bought a 2022 Tacoma. I still have my old vehicle, my 1993 Toyota Pickup with a 5 speed transmission. But I like new vehicles too. You can really enjoy both.
