Why You Can't Tuck Planche | How to Fix It!

In this video I explain the basics needed for the tuck planche, exercises to train specifically for the tuck planche, and offer some general tips to consider for your training to maximize your progress.

The tuck planche is very deceptive. It’s usually the first calisthenics skill we try to get but getting there isn’t always easy.

When I was struggling with it, I remember thinking I was missing some key piece. What’s the secret?

The reality is, I just wasn’t strong enough. Focus on increasing your pushing strength, focus on increasing your straight arm strength, and be consistent with your calisthenics training!

Play around with drills like pike pull-throughs and other holds like the crow pose. Be willing to experiment to see what works for you!

Great video!

I remember trying a tucked planche for the first time. I thought I was going to die. (6.4", 210lbs)
Lately I'm getting better at it. I can hold a proper one for 10 sec now.

It's a great exercise to show people. Especially if they aren't familiar with it, people tend to not be very impressed by it.
Then you ask them to give it a try themselves.
9 out of 10 times you will see a person humbled.

your first tuck planche in june 2017 looks impressive already as your hips are almost at a level with your shoulders sir. i still use a resistance band to get it up that high😣still working on my shoulder strength doing pseudo planche push ups

I am 192 cm (6foot3) and 90kg (like 200lbs). I have been in the gym for some time and I can bench press my body weight easily, also I don't do bad in military press but I when I try the tucked planche It looks like a dip with the knees bended. I cant lean forward enough (I fall to my face) or get my butt and lower back up. Hope this progressions help me. I dont know if I dont have enough strength (I thought that as I could bench press 90kg that this would be easy, It isnt lol) or if my body is just too big for this exercise to be possible for me. Btw great video man, one of the most well explained and structurated I have seen, I think the progressions are perfect to develop the skill, lets try them

6'2" and 200 pounds and tuck plance feels like a fucking nightmare. I definitely got the basics down cause i have a 10 year weightlifting history but the shoulder load on the planche is just decimating. After 3 months of additional planche leans and pseudoplanche push-ups in my workout i can barely lift my feet off the ground (hands on the floor - no parallettes). Its a fucking huge grind and my elbows are hating me.

I can even do what you do as a total beginner

I am super confused about my lack of strength in this skill and was wondering if you have any advice. I can do a Planche lean for almost 10 seconds with my hands at waist-gut depth. I can do 40 push-ups in a set with good form, at least 15 dips, and 10 pull-ups strict form. I have years of experience in breakdance and did handstands and elbow levers all the time. Despite these feats, whenever I try a tuck planche, I can’t even get my knees close to lined up with my elbows, and even with my knees so far infront of my elbows I can barely hold it for more than 3 seconds. I am protracting my scapula as much as possible, and it seems no one else has this problem. I also trained both calisthenics and weighs before, I’m just stumped at what the issue is

It's much easy by trying to kiss the floor while in the position in a hand press.

What unlocked my planche was to extend my push-up beyond the top by protracting my back.

My tuck planche looks just like the one on the left of the thumbnail. So disappointing😣😣😣
