Kia e-Niro in-depth review - still want a Tesla Model Y? | YesAuto

Have you got your eye on the new Tesla Model Y, but the near two-year wait for it to arrive in the UK is driving you nuts? Well, the Kia e-Niro may be a suitable substitute. The all-electric SUV has a range in excess of 280 miles in top-spec form and, crucially, should cost less than the Tesla when the Model Y’s pricing is adjusted for the UK market.

But ‘cheaper’ doesn’t always mean ‘better’. The Hyundai Kona, for instance, is a brilliant electric car but is let down by an interior that’s just a but too plastic-y. So pour a drink and take a seat while Cam takes you through all the pros and cons of the Kia e-Niro.

YesAuto is the one-stop shop for buying any car in a way that’s easy and enjoyable. We’ll help you find the right car, from the right dealer, the zero fuss way.

I've had my e-Niro "4" spec now for 3 months, and I absolutely love not just the car but the entire electric driving experience. You're quite right in that with the e-Niro range anxiety (or even "range mild concern") goes straight out the window, as it has far more range than I'd typically use in a day, so you simply forget about range and just drive the car! It's also way more efficient than our other electric car, so I typically get about 1p per mile in running costs (when combined with our "agile octopus" electricity tariff). As for cost of ownership, It's costing out MUCH cheaper than running my previous car (a 5-10 year old Volvo V70) as with a PCP contract, the cost relates directly to the resale value, and these cars REALLY hold their value, so you pay much less for the 3 years of ownership. However, to your video title, would I change it for a Model Y? - YES, in an instant! My son-in-law has a Model 3 and the advances in just about every aspect of car design are obvious - most importantly the Supercharger network, which for those making regular long journeys is completely world-beating! Thanks for the interesting review.

I have the Kia e Niro 4 absolutely love it. Talking to friends who have Tesla’s the tech is great but the build quality leaves something to be desired. The Kia’s build quality is really good ours is in pearl white .

Thanks, I love mine. I enjoy the smooth torque delivery, the car is very fast off the line.It will take about 7 years by my estimate to recover the extra cost over an ICE in terms of cost savings, but I did not buy it to save money.

Driving an electric car is a whole new experience, so much better than a petrol or diesel. OK if it helps to save the planet well another bonus.

Yes you can store stuff under the bonnet. It won't catch fire, nor get hot.
I keep my charging cables there in one of the trays of the boot.

Hi. Pretty good review. But having got a 4 spec Kia e Niro I would just like to point out that you say the car has a 60 kw battery when in fact it is 64 kw and the uvo app is free for the first 7years and does a hole lot more than you describe I e you can set and check state of charge and lock and unlock the car as well set the ac.

Picked up a 4+ yesterday in Yacht blue, it is amazing. Totally in love with it. You don't need to press the park button to drive though, just move the console to D. The turning circle is amazing and I love that the steering wheel is so light. Not a fan of it though when you hold the steering wheel trying to get out. I know you say there is a lot of storage, I'm not impressed with the glove box though. It's a pain to open and tiny 🙄

Great review, I have just put my order in for a ENero 3. The colour gravity blue is now replaced with yacht blue which is lighter and more metallic in appearance.

Nice lively and balanced review, if not particularly full, Cam (great name for a car reviewer, and highly ironic in the case of an EV). The 4+ also has an electric sunroof, and the Krell sound system, which I think is across the range, is really special.

I'm picking up mine next Friday! In the same colour so thanks for the review. Ordered in February. One point to note, I don't think it's the 4+, the 4+ has vented seats, the 4 which I am getting does not. It does have heated seats though.

great review, but you were driving a "4", and the "4+" which has replaced it doesn't come in Gravity Blue, but the replacement colour, Yacht Blue looks gorgeous!

You left out one if not the most important upgrades on the 4+. and that is a heat pump.

I was thinking to get the Niro until I read so many complaints about the bearing issue.

nice video, but where is the comparison with the model y? I think there is a small error in your info though; you stated that only the most expensive model has 3 phase charging, i believe all trims have that though.
