.............................................................

This is the all-new Kia Niro!

Mat’s got his hands on this family-friendly SUV to see if it has what it takes to grab your attention in an increasingly busy SUV market.

So let’s start with a look at the design. It’s notably different to the old model, with a whole new light design round at the back through to some chrome trim & bigger headlights at the front. You’ll also have the choice of optional side panels and blacked-out windows with higher-spec models!

On the inside, the improvements compared to the old model continue. The dash has a cool swooping effect coupled with a large infotainment screen, and the centre console comes with a number of physical buttons. You’ll also find soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout.

You can get the new Niro as either a hybrid or electric. The standard hybrid comes equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine coupled with an electric motor to produce 139hp. You can also buy the Niro as a plug-in hybrid, which has the same set-up but a bigger battery and motor. So not only can it run on electric power alone for around 40 miles, but it can also put down 180hp.

Then there's an all-electric version. This is equipped with a single electric motor which is good for 201hp. The price starts from £28,000 for a hybrid, with the EV starting at £35,000!

So it all looks pretty impressive, but is the Niro really worth that £28,000 starting price? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!

What’s the best EV SUV currently on the market? 🤔

1. How to turn off LKA (6:45) -> Long press the LKA button on the steering wheel
2. The reason why LKA did not active (12:16) -> was driving under approximately 30mph (According to the manual, it must be over 60kph(37mph) to be active)

In every hybrid/electric video Mat always says “in some cars, the brakes can be a bit grabby, but not in this car” Every single one!

One thing Kia has going for them is that they actually have decent names for most of their cars, not serial numbers.

The headrest have 4 different depth settings. You just pull it towards your head and once its has reached the most forward position the next pull will reset it back to furthest position.

6:45 You should be able to hold the auto steer button for 2 seconds and the lane assist will deactivate itself. At least that's how it works on my EV6 with basically identical software systems.

To turn off lane departure warning you just have to press the button for the lane keeping assistant for a few seconds ;)

To be honest; Kia's new design language really is getting quite pleasing; the new Niro, the new Sportage, the EV6, ... Kia's stepping up!

6:46 If you want to turn off LKA system which stands for Lane Keeping Asistance easily, you can just keep pressing LFA button which is on the steering wheel for a few seconds. LFA button looks like a steering wheel in a lane. As far as I know, it works for every Kia car having LKA system.

How much has Kia come on in the last few years?! They’re all good looking cars and they seem full of features. I’m impressed 👍🏻

Hyundai and Kia seem to be absolutely killing it with electrification. Some really compelling options.

When you shortlist cars like the above, it would be really helpful if you could also pick out the top 2/3 cars you’d shortlist them against if that’s not too competition unfriendly 🙃

Love the videos Matt, best reviewer on the Tube!!

Hi Mat
1.Turn off the LKA -> Push lka button on the steering wheel for several seconds
2. LKA not working condition -> about 45kph under drive (In manual, you should drive 60kph more and if you fullfill this condition, it is active )

To turn off the lane departure warning in a Kia, you can usually just hold down the lane departure button on the steering wheel.

I bought the Niro hybrid EX model a couple of weeks ago and love it. Comfortable, quiet, lots of convenience and safety features that my 2011 Ranger didn’t have and gets more than double the fuel economy. I did 3 hours each way on the interstate with 4 of us in the car with the cruise control set at 75mph and got 51.8 mpg.

This thing looks really competitive, I'm just hoping Kia lowers the price to keep it from competing too much with the EV6. In the States the previous Niro was as expensive as a mid-trim EV6 which is a better EV, but hopefully they'll adjust the pricing.

I'm getting my Niro friday, a nice looking blue one with 50 km on the counter, can't wait.
The power plug in the cabin is a game changer if you like to travel and sleep in the car or have power when camping

Hey Mat, how about evaluating cars self driving capabilities as standard ? it is becoming a must have gadget especially in cities and driving in traffic jams automatically is a great feature, which Honda-e handles surprisingly well (stops and starts back on it’s own as well )
