I was eating in the chow hall and I was sitting behind our captain. The next thing I hear is our First Sergeant whispering in the captains ear was sir I lost my rifle. It was found an hour later but it was swept under the rug. Still one of the funniest things I had heard in my 22 years.

As I remember, it’s all about discipline! I never liked when the D.I. Tried to turn the rest of the platoon against individuals because they had to do extra work as punishment. I never played that game because it taught you that maybe you can’t count on your platoon buddies to watch your back.

And don't flip the bird at your DI while sitting on the bus after graduating Boot Camp😂! I heard about a guy who did this. The DI was yanked off the bus and did Basic all over again. Probably with the same loving DI.

Rolling your eyes + disrespect = push ups till you puke. Sometimes just rolling your eyes get you push ups. I learned REAL quick to not to let my eyes do its own thing. ❤

Here's one more. One of the platoon sergeants finally had enough of us not clearing our rifles before going to the clearing barrels and gives us a 45 minute rant on clearing procedures. He turns around fires one off right into the clearing barrel. You could hear him cussing and yelling a mile away. It was hilarious and we laughed about for years. 😂

There is one more to consider- the breakup letter from home. Whether it’s 13 or 6 weeks basic training in any military or police academy is all about mental preparation. The greatest lesson I learned is you get out what you put in, if you mentally believe it’s easy then you can control your destiny. You are suffering no more than the person beside you. Believe and do something better in the service of others.

In basic, Ft benning, We had a guy who was always fumbling. One day he damaged the rifle in bayonet training. Drill Sgts were about to smoke him but lucky for him, 1st sgt showed up, said he is just a little more motivated, and made him run 6 miles to the armoury(for replacement weapon)and 6 miles back. Keep in mind, 1sgt ran with him with the damaged weapon.

Drill sgts, did not smoke him for the whole day. He still had to run the 2 miles with the platoon setting his pace, to the barracks.
