CAR vs BICYCLE: 10 Tips for Safe Commuting

It's not easy to be safe in a car, let alone a bicycle. These tips will greatly increase your chances on the road...especially if you watch them with a car driving friend.

I live in a busy city in England and yesterday for the first time I went on the roads with my bike, I had a companion showing me the ropes for confidence but it was excellent, I loved it and before this it was one of my greatest fears travel that way. Wish more people would leave the car at home and go by bike. Working towards doing it alone now. Great video, Very helpful.

As a car driver and a cyclist, be very careful about flashy bright lights. Sure I may see the light but if I can't see you nor the rest of the road because i'm temporarily blinded, that creates a very dangerous situation for you.

Liked. I liked your point about space, it made me think that a bike might be taking up some space but it's one person on a bike. Then a car comes along, normally only one person in the car and it's taking up the room of 4 or 6 bikes? But the driver thinks we take up too much space? Funny is it not?

I am using a custer products light for my tail light and red and white side lights and a good headlight, you have to build mountings for them.

My stupid city decided to divide the sidewalk into pedestrian + bicycle lane. Because of this police say we can't ride on the street anymore. But they fail to acknowledge the lack of thought that went into creating those bike lanes. Transitions not smooth enough when coming back down into the road, pedestrians walking all over the bike lane... Its a nightmare. I can't ride anywhere

Great video and tips! I used to put my right hand up to turn left as well (I just stick my left hand out now). But one day I was signalling to turn, and this guy didn't understand the signal; he ended up passing me while I was turning.

The roadways are unkind, very dangerous & deadly to all but especially cyclists, pedestrians & animals. I had a friend (along with his companion) who were both killed in bike vs car crash while they cycled in Austin TX. A second friend of mine was killed by a truck early one morning while he cycled to work on a 2-lane FM road in heavy-fog. Unfortunately he couldn't afford a car & had no alternative mode of transport. I have a third friend who was lucky to survive being hit by a truck in Austin TX; the incident resulted in many, deep bruises & serious all over road-rash. She was cycling alone when she was sideswiped by a truck in a hit & run crash without witnesses. The truck knocked her off her bike into the gravel & grass on the roadside. I have one friend who was killed by a car while simply walking to his mail box, plus 2 other friends in 2 seperate accidents. Recently a relative of mine was hit by a car while he jogged in his neighborhood. Even though he was terribly injured, he luckily survived thanks to modern medicine. He had a long painful recovery. My family has had 2 deaths by car crashes & another 3 serious-crash survivors.
