Beggar Odysseus just standing there in full view of his wife and her suitors is such a simple yet great touch to Homer's Odyssey. I also love how hard Penelope is struggling to hide her sadness and discomfort over the thought of a suitor being king by her side.

I get there's brevity needed for a musical, but it's a bit disheartening that it cuts out that part of the challenge is stringing the bow in the first place. None of the suitors could even get the bow in a condition to fire an arrow until Odysseus does it with no effort and shoots the arrow through the axes.
