The Challenge | EPIC The Musical | Animatic

**I had to make a reupload because I noticed a continuity issue in one of the shots when the bow was unstrung. I couldn’t let it go once I saw it and had to fix it. Sorry!**

Took waaaaay too long to make this one, and I blame the fact that I used colors for this animatic and that freaking 360-degree camera shot. I gave up, gives mad respect to everyone who can pull out these kinds of animations. Weirdly enough, I found it hard to draw Penelope, and there were some shots that I just couldn’t figure out how to portray. Especially how I would introduce Odysseus in this animatic or if he wouldn’t even appear at all.

The pure aggression she has during the challenge to the suitors was so cathartic to see. Its a curse. Never a winnable challenge other than her husband or her could do.

Dude the power Penelope shows at 1:56 by removing the string from the bow (that she strung herself btw which is so freaking cool) was phenomenal. Her ARMS??! like wow fanning myself that's a Spartan princess right there. Your Penelope design is just chef's kiss!

The fact that Penelope knows how to string the bow herself is so cool. Considering she herself is a warrior too. I also love that she threw the bow down towards the suitors like, "You want to rule Fine. Here is this Damn Challenge! Earn it!" Just to me adds the emphasis that she never wanted to do it to begin with but knows that the suitors will try something at this point.

They don't show up in many animatics but appear all the time in the Odyssey. Penelope is a queen, after all. It makes sense she'd have servants doing a lot for her, just like any other royalty.

There's an old version of the story that I love where a young Odysseus is visiting Sparta while a tournament is being held, and one of the challenges being held is to shoot through axe heads. The Spartan record was ten, and in a bid to impress Penelope, Odysseus shot through eleven. I love this story, especially with this song, because with her challenge, the only one who could win would be someone who wanted to impress her more than her husband did. Which was impossible.
