Nobody’s mentioned it so far so I will: I haven’t seen this in any other animatics yet, but I love how Ximena gives Penelope a markedly different design compared to what Odysseus remembers/imagines. It definitely adds to the sense and reminds us how it’s been two decades 🥺😌

OH I LOVE THE REFERENCES TO THE ORIGINAL STORY!!
0:46 You see someone peeking through the door and closing it when Penelope talks about her lie with the shroud which might be a nod to how in The Odyssey, one of the servants found out about her scheme and immediately told the suitors, which led to Penelope being forced to give out the challenge to choose a husband.
1:17 is also a scene from the Odyssey where a wetnurse saw the scar on Odysseus' leg, while he was disguised as a beggar and recognized him as the king.

Hands down, this is THE BEST animatic for The Challenge, in my opinion. The nods to events that happen in the source material, the visualization of the arrows flying at Penelope (because in some versions, she sat on the other side of the axes specifically so a winning shot, or a shot close enough, would end her life, since she refused to have any other husband than Odysseus), the way she has the flashbacks of her life with him, and my most favorite part is when her vision of him protects her, just as he always has! Ugh, they are relationship goals and this animatic perfectly encapsulates Penelope’s deep love for Odysseus.

It really paints the picture as to why Penelope went to such lengths and waited for so long. This expresses her undying loyalty and adoration for Odysseus. Not a single other animatic for this song has made me repeatedly cry. I just can’t keep it together when the flashbacks start. 😭 Thank you so much for blessing us with this absolute masterpiece!!!
