How to Crochet for Beginners - Step by Step! - The Basics - Lesson 1 - Right Handed

•Learn How to Crochet! Easy, Basic Beginner Lesson 1, even if you've never crocheted before!

I hope you are excited and ready to learn how to crochet. Today is the big day! After watching my video, you will be well on your way to becoming a crochet whiz.

I've crocheted since I was 9, so if I can do it, YOU can do it!

It's really easy to do, but make sure to just keep practicing if anything feels awkward.

Yippee! Okay, without further ado, let's get started.

1. Grab a hook - I'm using a size US H today, but you could go with a G or an I or whatever you have available.

3. Let's start crocheting!!

You'll learn how to:

-Work a slip knot. Easy.

-Create a chain, which is the foundation on which you'll build your crochet piece.

-Do a single crochet. (SIDE NOTE! These are AMERICAN instructions... if you're in the UK or elsewhere outside the US or find a UK pattern, crochet terms are a bit different. Just so ya know.)

Hi! I wanted to take a moment and let you know that this video is a hit with the 3rd graders I am teaching to crochet. We have Yarn Club after school on Tuesdays. I have been working with them for a few weeks. I decided to pull this video up today to help with a few of the struggling ladies. They absolutely loved it. We paused and repeated several times. Hi Chandi, I'm sitting here with my daughter. I haven't crocheted in about 5 years...for reasons I'd rather not go into. However, we were at a Harry Potter book release last night and I'm probably the only person that can go into a big book store and come out with something other than books. I got a couple crochet blanket kits and while I'm refreshing my crochet skills, that were really still at beginner, and my daughter is learning to. Thank you. Two things I find really helpful about this video: You show exactly what it means to go into a stitch, under those "two little legs", and you tell us to keep the loop on the fat part of the hook. These may seem so obvious, but they're easy to get wrong as a beginner. I'm motivated again!!

I am away from home for work for a long period of time, and I've been pretty miserable. I left all my knitting supplies at home, because apparently they don't travel well (Long metal spikes are apparently a no-no on international flights).

I was walking through a bookstore on the way to meet a customer, and I saw a crocheting kit. I had used your channel to learn to knit a few months ago, and I was pretty sure I'd remembered you had a crocheting tutorial.


On my way back to my hotel, I grabbed the crocheting kit and some yarn, and now I'm about as happy as I've been since I left home. Thanks so much for your great videos!
