Yes!  I was waiting for the memory palace reference.  I have used this in the past to memorize things and it makes an AMAZING impact on your ability to remember long, strange lists of things.

Joe: One trick I do for memorizing important phone numbers is to always dial them without using the auto dialer from the phone. I know the home and cell phones for my daughter, my dad, my brother, and two of my best friends. (Okay, my two ONLY friends. Don't remind me. I'll cry.) Funny enough, I had to explain this to my daughter why I was bothering to manually dial her cell phone number when I got her the phone. I also had to explain why I have to look up her mother's number. You can do the math.

I have a pretty strange way of remembering things or so I've been told. I imagine my brain is a filing cabinet and imagine different parts of my brain is for remembering different things like names, movies, dates, events etc.

Whenever I want to store a memory like a new name or a great scene in a movie, I imagine storing it in a file in the appropriate part of my brain and when I need to remember something I simply go to the appropriate file and it's usually there.

I'm pretty sure this only works because I've been doing it for over 30 years so I doubt it's something you could just pick up.

A really good book on this topic of fast and slow thinking and memory.
"Thinking, fast and slow" by Daniel Kahneman.
Certainly not a light read but an excellent book on this subject for those really interested in this subject

I have two techniques that work almost flawlessly when properly applied. The first one is Do It Now, Before I Forget. This involves stopping whatever I'm currently doing and going and doing the thing I don't want to forget to do. The other technique is called Write It Down. I don't have a memory palace, but I _do_ have a memory Moleskine... when I can remember where I put it.

7:55 🤣🤣🤣 Hats off to you man!!
When I need to do something but I'm busy right now I change the ring I wear on my right thumb to my left, so when I notice a couple of minutes later I do the thing and change the ring back

This reminds me of the Indiana Jones quote, "I wrote them down in my Diary so that I wouldn’t *have* to remember." I think it's more important to know that the information exists, when it applies to your situation, and where to find it. As long as you wrote it down somewhere (or it's in your phone) then you don't need to put the effort into memorizing the details.

I have been studying a new computer language. I thought that I had to memorize the details, but this proved to be far less efficient that just writing code in the language. There are a ton of details I don’t know, but I look them up as I need them. Actually engaging in the language accelerates the learning.

I’m building a skill as opposed to a knowledge base.
