Let me summarise in my own words: From time to time we get distracted and can't focus on our task anymore. Instead of trying to focus even harder and failing that, we should better take a break from the task. This could look like sitting there and daydreaming, meditating, taking a walk, take a shower, ... All these activities require a minimum of focus because they are automatised. So our brain gets a break and our thoughts can play. Here is where new ideas are born thanks our creativity being able to flourish.

Wow, I’m such a daydreamer and never thought it’s a good idea to let people know that I daydream and now to find out it actually helps my default mode, “my creativity!” Now to tap into it further with word associations to help me be mindlessness which further nurtures my default mode. That’s great! Thank you Dr Hamdani!!! 😊

Honestly what's really great is that she subtly told us to ditch distracting things and get bored. She appreciated what the distraction gave us, but we don't need to be distracted externally when we work best bring distracted internally

This is a groundbreaking Ted Talk! we’ve heard of sleep and exercise having benefits but intentional mind wandering and daydreaming can be the new prescription

Yin and yang come up in so many different areas I love seeing opposites juxtaposed in synergistic ways. “Doing nothing is actually doing something.” Exactly psychiatric queen.

Thank you for reminding us that boredom is ok! Reset with mindlessness so we can be mindful. Love it!

Wow, that was a nice TED talk. I am very happy to hear that boredom is okay. Now, I do my work when I am bored. In total relaxation and boredom, I feel happiness.

Sasha, so profound! My mindless mode set when I start praying. I am on auto mode and my mind wonders. Sometimes I lost track what rakat I am in. Thank you for this wonderful talk. ❤️

Wow! I have been following you for at least a couple of years and I know how terrified you were about this, but you did an amazing job. I learned so much! I have really got to start letting myself be bored instead of chasing the dopamine 24/7. Who knows what I could achieve? I just didn’t realize that instead of trying to make myself come up with ideas, I need to sit and let them come to me.

I've learnt a lot from this video. From what she shared, we don't need to feel guilty when we let our brain in the mindless mode sometimes because that's when we can get access to innovative ideas and explore more interesting aspects about ourselves. Thank you very much for sharing!

This works. I've been doing this over the last year and it works. I don't have ADHD. I use it to simulate creativity. I lay on the living floor for 45mins - 1hr, and let my brain run. It is a great technic.

I am a daydreamer and play absurd scenarios that bring me joy when day is looking gray. Loved your talk xx
