Forgetting peoples' names doesn't bother me at all. I just say: "Sorry I've totally forgotten your name, what is it again? Thanks, sorry, I'm great with faces but pretty bad with names." It works every time, no one has ever gotten upset at me for it, because we've all had this experience. Chill and be confident, people.

Everything I learned about memory I learned at Semiaquatic Mammal University. (At the Hippo Campus.)

In the beginning of the video you brought up a specific example of forgetting names... I'd like to know how using the method in this video would help you remember people's names. The solvent method used is demonstrated via a game, played right before sleep, that had specific sound queues. You demonstrated that it works in that particular set of circumstances, but we don't get audio cues when we meet people that we can then go take a nap and replay those audio cues to help us remember. Therefore, you've given us a general principle, but very little in the way of practical application.

What would we do without TED? This is just amazing. The amount I learn from TED is just incomparable.

Also, if you use all your 5 senses in creating a memory, it will also be a lot harder to forget... That's why Trauma is so hard to surpass.

A genuine question, how does some one go to sleep with all these contraptions strapped on? Would not the anxiety/excitement kill the sleep? Or, do they give the subjects some sleep/calming medications?

Neat idea, but it has a few limitations I can see immediately:
1. You have to be able to sleep while wearing headphones.
2. You have to be a deep enough sleeper that the sounds don't wake up you.

"How playing sounds associated with random images in a memory test may improve performance on said random memory test". Next level hack here, the pragmatic possibilities are truly endless.

Wow! Excited about the new genre of TED, combination of TED Ed, discussion and expert informative, great idea too-of course. But just love the discussion and TED Ed blended together.

Build an app around it to monitor sleep state and play music automatically and then release it in public as beta test. You'll get a much larger sample size

So it's a sound association that reinforces a visual spacial position on a grid of hidden objects.

How can this be relevantly translated into remembering anything useful?

Could a sound be used to reinforce any thing more complex?

Like a word, sentence, paragraph, or page?

Would the sound be a long steady tone as you read the page?

It's interesting, but it needs to be fleshed out with more test subjects.
