So glad you guys did this video. It’s so easy to fall into a bottomless pit of YouTube ‘swing tips’ that it distracts so much from a flowing swing and actually playing the game of golf. Shot my best round today for at least 2 years - helped especially with the driver

I can’t express how much the first tip helped me! I watched a bunch of videos that really focused on rotation—and I was hitting the ball further at first. But after focusing so much on that, I didn’t realize how over the top my swing became! I was constantly hitting shots way off the heel, and now I’m hitting them right off the centre 😎

What I especially like about your analyses is the lack of right way/wrong way judgments. Instead, you explain why doing more of this or that makes your swing more complicated vs easier and more repeatable. Helps a lot for we ‘why’ style learners. Thx!

Wrist angles and "come more from the inside" obsessions really messed up my game for several months. Getting major muscle and lower body movements right will more than likely take care of the smaller muscles and face angles. Totally agree with your top list here. Not quite as keen on the toe overtaking heal since my miss on driver is stalling the body and shutting the club face. Again, the issue is body movement and fixing through holding off would take me down the wrong path. Good stuff in this video.

You hit on all of the latest talking point fads on YT golf content. Holding off the driver, elbow tuck and bend, towel under the arm, etc. Now I'm seeing back swing tempo (too slow for amateurs). Somewhere along the way we forgot to RELAX and to stop over thinking. There's a very small following of jumbo max grips (which I dove head first in to) and those do help the club feel more comfortable in my hands. However I struggled to adjust my grip so I tried ALL of the fads you covered in this video. Finally I figured out (after a lesson that fixed my weight shift) that my grip was preventing me from turning ALL of my clubs over. I had to (right hand golfer) go neutral on my right hand ("V" running straight down the writing on my grip) and set my left hand with the "V" running to my back shoulder. It was my right hand on the club that was too weak preventing me from turning the club over. I have learned that YT golf instructors are doing a good job of ruining a lot of golf games (present company excluded) with teaching things how the "pros" do them ... and we aren't pros. Good content here guys !!

Regarding a bowed or flexed wrist at impact, there is an advantage to doing so not mentioned- notwithstanding the resulting disadvantage of a close club face at impact unless compensatory actions are taken. The big advantage of a bowed or flexed lead wrist is that this ensure ball turf contact at impact- perhaps the biggest fault of amateur golfers including myself. A closed club face at contact is normally for me a small price to pay for ball turf contact that vastly increases compression and distance.

From my personal perspective "tilt" is really a misnomer in the context shown because to my mind a tilt involves movement of the spine bending away from (or towards but not in this context) the target. Really really what is going on following the lateral movement shift of the hips with back to target to start the downswing is a dropping of the arms and hands in front of the right thigh into the delivery position from which one rotates the body through the shot. That arm and hands movement down does not appear to be a tilt from where I sit.

I had PGA pro lesson last week and he was teaching me to do the shallow exaggeration you say not to do. Now I'm really confused. I'm 59 and was getting taught #2 and #3. I like your explanation of shift, tilt, turn. I think that was more of what I was doing before the lesson. My main issue is my right elbow bowing at impact vs being in the "giving blood" position at impact.

Wowweeee. That left hand under the right arm drill gave me that feeling I need, as most of my worst shots tend to occur when I lose the hands in the backswing. I know when I get to 9 o’clock whether I can save it or I’m absolutely f*cked. More often than not, when I get that bad feeling I’ll step off, try some more practice swings, but I can’t shake it..this really helped me get it all feeling right.

To get real deep into it when it feels wrong, it’s almost like my thumb on the right hand is pointing the wrong direction, or giving the wrong feedback. I’ve found (to compensate) that by almost pulling my right hand thumb and nearly all of my right hand off the grip helped me take it out of the equation yet still help guide it….BUT that drill helps me establish a little more confidence in my right hand.

16:04 reminds me of your old tennis racket drill from back in the day at The Astbury!

Great video guys! I have applied all of these “helpful advice” tips that you’re urging people to stop. The results have been a horrendous two way miss with driver (wicked slice being the most common miss)! Time to apply your recommendations and hopefully see better results! Thanks for the great lesson videos and tips!
