The best Drill to Strike your irons pure.

A drill I have been using this year with great results. To pure your irons is all about impact!
Looking for low point a couple of inches after the ball for your divots to start.

The drill is to pre set the ideal impact position then hit the ball from there, really simple but very effective.

The pre shot looks like how you would set up for a pitch shot. Back when I used to play every day, I experimented with something like this from 150 yards in where I would open my stance and basically hit an elongated pitch shot. I developed a deadly accurate shot.

This helps a lot. I think of a imaginary ball in front of my real ball and try to hit that. Another way is to put a tee in front of your ball and try hitting the tee out of the ground

Not gonna lie I used this tip today and was striking way more consistent 👊

The three things seen in this video that poor ball strikers don’t have are: 1) maxed out ulnar deviation in both wrists; 2) club shaft in-line with lead arm, and 3) flat rather than extended trail wrist.

This was why Hogan ‘waggled’ in his pre-shot routine, developing the reflexive habit (muscle memory) of releasing his hands all the way down into maxed-out ulnar deviation before impact with the ball to align and stabilize the face to target. If you stop-action analyze how his wrists changed in the downswing just before impact you will see it.

Convention wisdom wasn’t to let the extension fully come of the trail wrist, instead keeping it hinged back (extended) through impact then being pulled straight into unlar deviation in the finish. For years I’d also read and hear that the maximum acceleration of the club head occurs AFTER impact and after adopting Hogan’s waggle in my pre-shot routine thought, “Why after not before striking the ball?” after noticing how much the WAGGLE DOWN wrist action if extended all the way until the Vardon grip causes the wrist to lock up and turn over ACCELERATES THE CLUB HEAD

Acceleration of mass is what creates kinetic energy in a hammer, axe, golf club head or the tip of a whip or fishing fly. The crack of a bull-whip is the tip reaching 700 mph and creating a small sonic boom! I realized the wrist action in Hogan’s waggle and bowing under of his lead wrist (supination + ulnar deviation) combined with trail wrist being pulled straight with arm and trail hand into ulnar deviation was a two-handed version of a whip-cracking action and very similar to to the mechanics and physics involved with swinging an axe when “bucking” a log — cutting a horizontal log in half by cutting a V through it with 45° strike from each side.

I experimented with swinging my irons down to the ground like an axe chopping wood and gained 20-30% in the distance with Driver. The distance with irons and wedges wasn’t as dramatic but the increase in height of the shots and spin rate was which resulted in more approach shots checking and staying on the green because of the higher loft and backspin I was able to put on the ball simply by adding a forceful “waggle down” all the way with my wrists BEFORE impact, not waiting until after impact with extension still in my trail hand for the club to reach maximum acceleration and pull hands and arms straight (hands into maxed out unlar deviation)

I realize this is too far into the weeds for 99% percent who will read this but adding “waggle down” action like chopping wood to an otherwise conventional “sweeping action” swing adds EFFORTLESS acceleration to the club and makes squaring the face to target very consistent because of the way the wrists lock up then force the hands to turn over.

The difference in this strategy vs convention is that the wrists will turn over MUCH SOONER after ball leaves face than will a sweeping swing - extension move. It requires the ability to sidebend deeply at impact — something Hogan did — which delays the club force and wrists being locked up spinning the face closed as released the ball creating a ‘snap hook.’ It was snap-hooking A LOT of shots while learning it which convinced me Hogan did it but kept it as one of his secrets because he was known for his uncanny ability to hit laser straight shots — which what locking wrists and face angle allows — or missing with wicked snap-hooks!

I later studied the swings of two other renowned laser straight very long ball strikers: Moe Norman and Count Yogi (Harry Frankenberg) and realize they used the same technique of maxing out the wrists and locking them with a waggle action to the same effect but with different grip styles.

This tip helped me break 100 for the first time this past weekend. I was striking it deadly accurate.

Hi Tyler great tip. Actually with proper COG tracking can still max coil and get your weight away from the outside of the lead foot post start up. You have more time to spare with the pre set, some old habits do die hard though.
Great advice Tyler!

My dad taught me this low point aim yesterday - and it worked wonders😱 I play with semi blades - and the ball strike was incredible

How do you transition from this set up to a normal set up when you start to hit the ball better?

Why’s this golf swing so disgustingly good 👍

Whenever I do this type of impact drill, I tend to lift my heel too early and block myself and hit blocks to the right. Could I try the wedge under the heel drill with this type of impact drill?

We used to call this the impact fix drill.

What’s with the awkward trail foot position? Is this to avoid hitting off back foot? That’s my specialty

I was kind of doing a rendition of this where I kind of turned my body as if I was already into the contact point if my swing and I started making great contact. Only reason I stopped was bc I was afraid it looked weird

I do this also. Imagine the ball is 1-2 balls ahead of where it really is.

Best tip is to put 60% of your weight o your left foot and swing down on the ball
