Learn one of the primary ways people have been re-regulating PTSD symptoms for millennia -- through movement. In this video I describe two kinds of exercise that work powerfully to heal symptoms of Complex PTSD and and childhood trauma. These movements help re-regulate the brain, nervous system and emotions. You may already be using them.

Oh my goodness. This explains why my husband and I had a fantastic month, this past summer, dancing every day at 6am to the Fitness Marshall. I felt so much more normal. We were high on the experience for weeks, even after we stopped. Going to pick it up again 😋 thank you! I feel hopeful for the first time in a week!

1. Vigorous exercise to discharge the stress hormones
2. Yoga, martial arts, kickboxing, dance classes; especially in groups (choir, marching in a group).

We need to be very careful with our spirituality as not all that glitters is gold as they say. Be very careful what you entertain. I recommend Biblical Spirituality. I read the scriptures (psalms are especially helpful), pray, worship, attend church etc. It’s not about “what works, ” its about what is true and brings true life, and is Jesus (The way, THE truth and the life.) wish you all the best my fellow journeyers :)

I really love Curtis Adams videos on You Tube. He's encouraging and a ray of sunshine. He often has one person showing how to do the exercises in a chair if you have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or anything else where it would be safer to start seated. Thanks for your videos, CC Fairy!! You are a blessing from G-d.

I've known many people with chronic conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome whose trauma symptoms and fatigue symptoms get worse with exercise. If these issues affect you I recommend trying restorative yoga, seated yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi or even T.R.E. (trauma release exercise). Make sure you practice with a teacher who's familiar with trauma and can adapt their lesson for severe conditions. It's possible you might experience an emotional release in class (which is healing and great). If you are bedbound or wheelchair bound try exercise in your mind. Hypnosis videos followed by mentally dancing to music helps. Alternatively try Dance Movement Psychotherapy.

One of the memories this brought up for me is medicine song and sacred or spiritual song group singing events. They're very special. A large community about that stuff is Singing Alive. Also, ecstatic dance communities have brought me a lot of joy over the years. Hope that helps someone!

I do something called Yoga Shred from Sadie Nardini. It's great for PTSD because it's HIIT (high intensity interval training ) and yoga. It combines the pulse raising cardio in short doable segments.

left/right focus. I ride horses and as a kid with no horse of my own I was often offered kinda crazy horses to ride if I had the guts. Of course with no safety boundries I rode some really rank broncs since I was 10. My go to strategy when I was riding a ticking bomb was to apply right left alternating pressure with the ball of my foot to the stirrup to match the horses's steps. It focused and calmed me and helped the horse by keeping me very centered and balanced and most times explosive horse behavior comes from a horse's sensing the rider fear and anticipatinig a sudden painful correction. I am almost 63 now and my own horse is 24 ready to retire from riding. I don't hink I will ever own another but I do plan to keep riding and this trick I use on all new to me horses to establish a trust bond.

I cannot follow . It’s like that part of my brain does not exists. Was always told by teachers I had natural ability but I just froze up when combinations were given or trying to understand math in school. I couldn’t grasp telling time. So much shame and derailment of purpose. Years later I discovered I really enjoyed math when I had to take it slowly while teaching my children in our elementary home school. Dancing is in me. I do it on a feeling basis by myself to music that moves me.

I really enjoy group dance. Following the sequence and moves...really makes me focus and use my brain. Feels great always after dance, laughter, eye contact with dance participants at my gym! :)

Making sense when hearing the science or new research about movements!!!
Gotta keep moving and dancing!!
Thank you for sharing!!!

Therapist recommended Kundalini Yoga. It has transformed me. I still can react with the PTSD but I acknowledge it.

Good morning!Thank you, Anna! It feels like everything is falling right in line for me lately! Learning to deal with every day stresses of life and consciously keeping myself regulated or getting re-regulated faster and easier. You have been an integral part of that for me! I've been trying to pull myself back when I notice it coming so I can see the situation clearly. I try to remind myself to see things either scientifically or psychologically and less emotionally. It seems to help me see things in a way that aren't as triggering emotionally. I think incorporating a more regular routine of exercise will help very much as well! I'm not a big exercise person and have muscle and joint pain so I'll have to find something fun! Maybe I'll finally learn how to dance lol! Lots of love and have a great day!

Hi Anna. Thank you. Could you addressed early (1 year old+) childhood, invasive medical procedures, sensory deprivation, neglect and eventual sexual abuse? I believe my medical experiences lead to cptsd behaviors that made me vulnerable to abuse. I’ve been binging your videos. So relatable. I’m starting CPT next week. I’ll be 57 in March. I’m grateful.✌🏽

Kickboxing has been huge for me. Not only is the exercise great, I get to take out my aggression on the bag (which just happens to remind me of my ex ;-). I've never punched or kicked a person in real life, but taking it out on the bag is the next best thing and you don't get in trouble for it!
