Today, I want to talk about what atheism means to me and what kind of atheist I am. Or at least, what kind of atheist I consider myself to be. Stick around!

So, on to the topic at hand. If you're going to split hairs, there seem to be no bounds on who can be an atheist and who can not. In reality, all it means to be an atheist is that you don't believe in any god or gods. You're still free to believe in all manner of crazy and unproven nonsense as long as you don't believe in god. But, generally speaking, in today's modern world, it's a specific mindset of person who goes around publicly identifying themselves as atheists.

To me, what it means to be a modern-day atheist... What pops into my head when I see someone say they're an atheist, my first thought is that they don't believe in god and they view the world through a certain lens of scepticism. Their trust lies in proven science, not faith in an unproven god... That is the core of the matter.

From what I have seen over the last year, the word "skeptic" has been coopted by a bunch of a$$holes. A bunch of the people I first started watching on youtube have been overcome by the cult of personality and the backstabbing and beatch fighting that always comes with the fights for pedestals to sit on.

I no longer use the words atheist or skeptical very much because of the silly sadsack a$$hattery I will not be a part of. So now I just call my self a non-christian or a nonbeliever. It really isn't necessary in North Carolina to say I am a non-hindu or other such non-stuff.

I have been thinking about adopting the label "secular humanist, " even though there are some who claim that would speciest of me. My biggest thing is to promote the avoidance of superstitious thinking and bad decision making, so maybe I will come up with a label for that.
