Berlin's public transport – what we like about it

Every time I hear someone from Germany (or any European country) complain about their public transit I invite them to come over to Houston TX, and experience public transport where you fear for your personal safety, if the bus even arrives.

Spent a week in Berlin in December and I absolutely loved it. The public transport system is outstanding, it was so easy to get around and every tourist attraction in the city is within reasonable walking distance of a U or S bahn station or tram stop. I stayed at Alexanderplatz and it was so convenient.

I'm rather vibing with the Deutschlandticket, for 1, 63€ a day I can go anywhere from Hannover to Westerland with a single train (from Hamburg in my case). Far, far away from Berlin 😊

Ist die Anbindung in Lichterfelde mittlerweile besser? Meine letzte Info war, dass man da Buslinien sogar eingestampft hat und wir mussten oft große Strecken laufen um vom Bus zum Haus zu kommen :D

I arrived in Berlin yesterday. So far, the transport experience has been terrible. The signs are really badly designed. I saw two orange lines that were only slightly different shades and there is no key on the maps to tell you the names of the lines. Then, at Berlin hbf, there is no information linking the lines to the platforms. I was walking around for an hour and had to speak to four different people before I was able to find the platform I needed. I have spent the 6 years working for a transport planning company and it is clear that there is a huge amount of room for improvement with Berlin.

I'm living in Berlin myself and as such I know the goods and tgee bads but the goods overweight the bads in every way.

In belguim a day ticket costs €24 so I would be happy

When I was in Berlin all you needed was a valid American ID card to ride free.

Berlin is very beautiful but Alexandalerplatz is Ugley 😢

Berlin's pretty ugly, but the transportation system is really good!
