In Hamburg there were fare areas 1, 2 and outer. 1 and 2 have been combined to one (Great area Hamburg) which contains the city itself and some suburbs.
The zone rings have a minor meaning to the districts.

Thank you for the information. However, I arrive in Berlin at Schoenefeld via train rather than via airplane. I have to take a bus from Schoenefeld station to Lieselotte-Berger-Platz on bus 371, 744 or on bus 171 or 260, if I don't want a longer walk. However since Schoenefeld is in Zone C, and my Haltestelle lies in the B Zone, should I buy the ABC 24 hour ticket, in case I want to visit the innercity, or is there such a thing as a 24 hour BC ticket, if one never visits the innercity?
